Changes in Higher Education Leadership

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Buti Manamela as the new Minister of Higher Education and Training. This comes after the dismissal of Dr Nobuhle Nkabane due to allegations linked to irregular SETA board appointments and misleading Parliament.

Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube has been announced as the new Deputy Minister, bringing years of government leadership experience, including her time as Premier of KwaZulu-Natal.

Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has been appointed, by President Cyril Ramaphosa, as the Acting Minister of Police until 1 August 2025, when Professor Firoz Cachalia is set to assume the role.

Mantashe steps in for Minister Senzo Mchunu, who has taken special leave following serious allegations made against him by Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
