In my is daar duisternis,
Maar by U is daar lig;
Ek is eensaam, maar U verlaat my nie;
Ek is swak van hart, maar by U is daar hulp;
Ek is onrustig, maar by U is daar vrede.
In my is daar bitterheid, maar by U is daar geduld;
Ek verstaan nie U weë nie,
Maar U ken die pad vir my.

Here Jesus Christus,
Jy was arm
En in nood, 'n gevangene en verlate soos ek is.
U ken al die mens se probleme;
Jy bly by my
Wanneer alle mense my in die steek laat;
U onthou en soek my;
Dit is U wil dat ek U moet ken
En draai na U toe.
Here, ek hoor U roepstem en volg;

On October 6, 1536 (486 yrs ago today), William Tyndale was burned alive at the stake. His crime was translating the Bible into the English language so the common man could know God’s Words. He said, “I defie the Pope and all his lawes . . . if God spare my lyfe ere many yeares, I wyl cause a boye that dryveth the plough, shall knowe more of the scripture then thou doest.”
At the stake he cried, “Oh Lord, open the king of England’s eyes!” The Lord did. Praise be. Bible believers owe a great debt to William Tyndale.
