Heartbreaking Story 💔💔😭| A 28-year-old South African woman, Nicolette Bongiwe Nkomo, traveled to Cambodia after being promised a teaching position. However, her family claims that she became trapped in a scam-related environment, where her passport was allegedly confiscated, she was mistreated, and forced to work without pay. Nicolette informed her brother about the conditions and pleaded to return home. She attempted to find a way out and retrieve her passport and documents for weeks but was allegedly unable to do so. On March 7, 2026, Nicolette was found deceased in a room she had rented with a Chinese friend. After her death, the friend discovered a letter Nicolette had written to her brother, in which she apologized, stated she was going to join their parents, urged him to stay strong, and wished him well for the future. Her family then faced another painful struggle, trying to repatriate her body to South Africa. The estimated cost of repatriation was almost R300,000, but the family was unable to raise the necessary funds. The funeral parlor was reportedly charging US$50 per day to preserve her body, while authorities warned that she could eventually be given a pauper's burial. The family appealed for more time but claims that authorities later stopped engaging with them. They were eventually left uncertain about whether Nicolette had been buried.
