Ford has clearly identified a growing segment in the bakkie market with the new Ford Ranger Sport and Ford Ranger Wildtrak.

Not every owner needs heavy towing, permanent off-road punishment, or a diesel workhorse every day. A large portion of drivers spend most of their time in urban traffic, on highways, or doing lifestyle travel — and this is where the new 2.3L EcoBoost makes a strong statement.

With 222kW on tap, refined petrol responsiveness, quieter operation, and what looks to be serious performance potential, this feels less like a traditional bakkie and more like a “baby Raptor” for everyday use.

Estimated 0–100 km/h times around the 7-second mark in a double cab bakkie is seriously impressive. It brings a more athletic, performance-oriented driving experience without sacrificing the comfort, practicality, and presence that the Ranger platform is known for.

Ford may have found a very smart middle ground here:
Performance.
Comfort.
Lifestyle.
Daily usability.
