Bruce and Carol Britten co-authored some of our most popular books for youth and married couples. They served Christ together for sixty-two years, mostly in southern Africa, and recently passed away within three months of each other. After marriage, they accepted a short-term missionary assignment to Swaziland, never realising it would result in a lifetime of service together and impact for the Kingdom in southern Africa. This ministry for Bruce included teaching at Franson Christian High School and Salesian High School, starting Zion Bible College, serving as Ministry Area Leader for TEAM-Southern Africa, and teaching the Bible to amaZioni pastors in both South Africa and Swaziland. Carol was known for her ministry through warm hospitality, thoughtful counsel and devotion to her family.
Together, they co-authored "Love and Marriage: Questions Young People Ask", a book for youth that offers frank and open discussion on relationships from a biblical perspective. Their handbook on marriage, "Answers for Your Marriage", has helped many couples and is a resource pastors often offer when counselling engaged couples. They also co-authored a handbook for church leaders, "Power for Victory". They shared a vision to see African church leaders, well-grounded in Scripture, taking the gospel to the ends of the earth. Together with Dr Elijah Maswanganyi, Bruce wrote "Arise Boldly with Power" and "Power of Jesus" to further that end. Their books have been translated into many languages around the world, including isiZulu.
We offer heartfelt condolences to the family and friends who will miss them greatly. We trust that their service for Christ will not be in vain, as their investment in people and the books they wrote will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.
