Our personal recommendation!!
STORY IS KEY!!
If you want a successful documentary, even (especially!!) in wildlife, you need a good STORY! This is an amazing story about how a man (Craig Foster) braves the cold waters of CapeTown and forms a strong bond with an octopus...
A very moving story turned into a beautiful doccie!! With amazing under water and aerial footage, great narration and music, we highly recommend this film if you have Netflix at home!
We were privileged to work with the Foster Brothers a few years ago to help them with all the 3D editing side of their documentary "Dragon 3D" when they dived with crocodiles in the crystal clear waters of the Okavango Delta! Another amazing movie of theirs! Damien and Craig and his team are great wildlife filmmakers and great people to work with!
Well done on your latest film...You deserve (once again) as many awards as possible!!

Some hectic but re assuring news from our heroes in the industry...

As many of you know, Dereck and Beverly Joubert were both attacked by a buffalo on the 3rd March. Beverly was badly injured. Impaled. Dereck has a broken rib, some additional cracked ribs and a cracked pelvis. After what can only be called a saga; Dereck chasing after the buffalo, kicked it and got Beverly off the horn and then got her to safety and stabilised for a long 11 hour wait in rough conditions for dawn and medical evacuation to South Africa and ICU where she has been for 12 days. Four operations of four hours each have started the rebuild. These is no way to describe the luck or miracle of what happened. Today Dereck is finally happy enough to say out loud that Beverly is going to make it.
She is still critical and under observation for pain and potential infections but she is awake and moving around.

Latest review from our last student Brent Clements :

""An absolutely amazing course that blew my mind in every possible way. Every day was different, exciting, challenging and so much fun. With it being my first time in Africa, and having zero knowledge of cameras and photography, I was quite apprehensive at first and did not know what to expect. But I couldn't have been made to feel more at home and at ease from the second I arrived, to the sad moment 25 days later I had to say goodbye, I really didn't want to leave! The course was taught in a professional yet relaxed and engaging manner. This meant I was able to learn more than I could ever of imagined in all aspects of wildlife film-making, from pre to post production, and have a really good laugh at the same time. The balance between study, safari, work and chill time was perfect, and words can't express how much I would recommend this course to anyone, no matter your experience. If you want to really experience the African Bush and learn all you need to know about film-making (plus enjoy countless delicious braais!) then this is the course you need. I made a million fantastic memories that will stay with me forever, and it goes without saying I also made a great friend in course leader Sebastien Rombi."

Latest review from our last student Janet Kleyn :

"There’s so much to learn about videography and it can be quite overwhelming, but the course is well laid out course and it all comes together nicely. It covers the full circle of videography from camera technology, video techniques all the way to editing. Sebastian was extremely patient and very clear in his instruction. Making your own movie is a fantastic way of getting the practical experience required and really learning on the job.
The course was flexible, if an opportunity presented itself that was not in the course layout, Sebastien quickly adjusted to allow us to gain the extra experience on offer. (We were fortunate to be there when they were dehorning rhino nearby and Sebastian quickly offered our assistance in filming for the day - what an incredible experience and learning opportunity).
I’ve come away with a good foundation to build on and 100% recommend this course. Over and above the skills learnt, we had an immense amount of fun and laughter in the course.
One warning to future students, do not try do a documentary on elusive nocturnal animals if you like your sleep - You can watch the video from our course (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kqeZeWD700) to understand why I say this"
