As a kid, I was inspired by Steve Irwin. I spent countless hours watching him share his love for wildlife with the world, dreaming that one day I might have my own adventures with these incredible animals.
I first met crocodiles a long time ago, but it wasn't until I turned 18 that our relationship really began. Since then, we've become quite well acquainted with each other.
Over the years, I've jumped some of the biggest crocodiles in this country. I've been dragged through mud, scraped up by thorns, bruised, battered, soaked, and exhausted. There have been moments that got my heart pounding and moments that left me questioning my sanity. But somehow, every single time, I've come out smiling.
To me, crocodiles feel less like animals I've worked with and more like old friends. They've been there for some of the greatest adventures of my life. They've taught me patience, respect, humility, and courage. They've taken me to places I never imagined I'd go and given me stories I'll be telling for the rest of my life.
Most people see a crocodile and see danger. I see an ancient survivor that has ruled our waterways for millions of years. I see an animal perfectly adapted to its world and deserving of every ounce of respect we can give it.
On World Croc Day, I want to celebrate these incredible creatures that have played such a massive role in shaping who I am. The scars, the bruises, the adrenaline, the laughter, the unforgettable memories—I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
Here's to the old friends with scales, teeth, and attitudes bigger than life itself.
Happy World Croc Day.
