Content Creator talks about finances...
I didn’t get hit with a R200k tax bill because I’m dishonest.
I got hit because nobody teaches creators how tax actually works.
And I refuse to let the next creator learn the hard way like I did.
Let me say this publicly:
I went to SARS.
They didn’t come to me.
I asked for help. I asked for clarity. I asked for a fresh start.
That’s leadership. Not shame.
Here’s what most creators don’t realise:
When money hits your account from Meta, brand deals, collaborations, gifted items, bookings…
That’s not “free money.”
You’re running a business.
Whether you accept it or not.
Creators are building empires without financial foundations.
We know cameras, apps, algorithms…
But nobody teaches us provisional tax, declarations, PAYE, turnover, or compliance.
We’re flying blind.
And the painful part?
We only go looking for answers when trouble hits.
I don’t want that for you.
This whole moment for me is about EDUCATION.
When I realised I owed SARS, I didn’t run.
I didn’t hide.
I didn’t wait for a penalty letter.
I applied for VDP — a Voluntary Disclosure Programme that REMOVES penalties if you come forward.
Let me break it down simply:
Tax = You must pay.
Interest = Still applies.
Penalties = Can be avoided if you act early.
That’s the difference between drowning and surviving.
What’s happening to creators right now is a wake-up call.
This is bigger than me.
Bigger than my R200k story.
Bigger than the newspaper headline.
It’s a SYSTEM problem.
Creators are running businesses without business education.
And here’s my honest message to SARS:
Let’s partner.
Let’s educate.
Let’s build workshops, guidelines, and programmes for digital entrepreneurs.
Creators are not criminals — they are uninformed.
This story is not about embarrassment.
It’s about transparency.
If I hide my journey, I stop thousands of young creators from avoiding my mistakes.
And I’m not here to hide.
I’m here to LEAD.
If you’re a creator making money and you don’t know how tax works…
Don’t wait.
Don’t panic.
Get informed.
Get structured.
Get compliant.
I promise you — the cost of ignorance is always higher.
