THREE MURDER SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN ESTHER PARK

Three suspects have been arrested following the fatal shooting of a 41-year-old man in Esther Park, Ekurhuleni, on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

The victim was shot at approximately 16:20 at the intersection of Parklands and Cawood Streets. The suspects allegedly fled the scene in a blue VW Jetta 5.

A joint operation involving the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team, SAPS Crime Intelligence and Blue Hawk Tactical led to the arrests within 24 hours.

One suspect was arrested in Spartan, while two others were arrested at Enhlanzeni Hostel, where the suspected getaway vehicle was also recovered.

A firearm operation at a house in Allandale Farm, Mayibuye, resulted in the recovery of a Beretta pistol with a filed-off serial number and 17 rounds of live ammunition.

The three suspects are expected to face charges including murder, possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Chief of Police IJ Mapiyeye commended the law enforcement teams for their swift response and collaborative efforts.

The suspects remain in custody and will face the criminal justice process.

Correctional Officer Arrested After 803 Bags of Dagga Seized at Sasolburg Prison

A 52-year-old correctional officer has been arrested after allegedly being found in possession of and dealing in dagga at the Sasolburg Correctional Centre.

According to the South African Police Service, officers responded to a complaint on Saturday, 8 August 2026, regarding a prison warder who was allegedly involved in the possession and dealing of dagga on the premises.

Upon arrival, police were directed to a male correctional officer wearing a Correctional Services uniform. Officers allegedly found him in possession of dagga and suspected of dealing in the illegal substance.

Police seized 803 ziplock bags of dagga, with an estimated street value of R8,050.

The 52-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of dagga and dealing in dagga.

The investigation is continuing.

Cape Town Couple Fined R40,000 Each for Illegal Reptile Trade

A Cape Town couple has been convicted and fined for multiple wildlife offences involving the unlawful keeping, possession and transport of reptiles.

The Wynberg Magistrate’s Court sentenced Zirkie Bernardus Jansen and Valerie Gayle Simpson-Jansen to a fine of R40,000 each or 18 months’ imprisonment after they were found guilty on seven counts under the Nature Conservation Ordinance.

The offences, committed in March 2022, involved 95 reptiles, including crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, New Caledonian geckos and ball pythons, which were kept and transported without the required permits.

Suspect Accused of Random Shooting Incidents to Appear in Komani Court

A 23-year-old suspect from Maya Locality in Cofimvaba is expected to appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation involving members of the Komani Flying Squad, K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence.

According to police, officers received information on 21 July 2026 that the suspect was travelling from Cofimvaba to Komani while allegedly in possession of a firearm. Police further stated that residents in the area had allegedly been living in fear due to repeated incidents in which the suspect was reportedly involved in random shooting episodes.

A multidisciplinary operation was launched, leading to the suspect’s arrest. During a search, officers allegedly recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police then accompanied the suspect to his homestead, where a second firearm and additional ammunition were allegedly recovered and seized as evidence.
