SOWETO - According to sources close to the club, Orlando Pirates have identified two young midfielders as transfer targets ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League campaigns.
The Sea Robbers are reportedly monitoring Alex Robertson from Cardiff City and Nahuel Melgarejo from Mochudi Centre Chiefs as they look to add depth and creativity to the squad.
WHO ARE THE TARGETS🥹?
●Alex Robertson, 22 - Central Midfielder The Australian international left Manchester City in 2024 to join Cardiff City on a four-year deal. Last season, he made 35 Championship appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists. Robertson is described as a high-energy central midfielder with strong pressing and ball retention capabilities.
He is also capable of playing in an attacking midfield role due to his technical quality, but his best attributes are work rate and control in midfield. Following Cardiff's relegation from the Championship in 2024/25, Robertson is expected to attract interest from several clubs.
●Nahuel Melgarejo, 22 - Attacking Midfielder / Winger The Argentine joined Botswana giants Mochudi Centre Chiefs in September 2025 after spells at Temperley and Al Bataeh in the UAE. Melgarejo is a classic attacking midfielder who operates between the lines and creates chances.
He can also play as a winger, cutting inside to link with the front line. At 1.70m, he has good balance and 1v1 ability. Chiefs signed him as a marquee addition, and he is part of their push for a first league title since 2015.
