ANC SHUT OUT OF TWO MUNICIPALITIES AFTER COURT LOSS

The Electoral Court has dismissed the ANC’s appeal against the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) over the party’s disputed candidate lists ahead of the 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections.

The ruling affects 181 ANC candidates across six municipalities after the party failed to complete the final submission of its candidate lists before the 28 August deadline.

The ANC will now be completely absent from the ballot in:

🔴 Port St Johns – Eastern Cape
🔴 Ngquza Hill – Eastern Cape

In Walter Sisulu and Sundays River Valley in the Eastern Cape, uMshwathi in KwaZulu-Natal and Mangaung in the Free State, the ANC will still contest ward seats, but its affected proportional-representation (PR) candidates will not appear on the ballot.

The ANC had argued that candidate information was already captured on the IEC’s online system and that technical problems prevented the final submission. The IEC disputed this, maintaining that uploading or capturing information was not the same as formally submitting the lists.

The ANC has indicated that it will pursue further legal options.

The November elections just got a major shake-up. 🚨

The family of 38-year-old Dineo Evelyn Motapane is facing devastating heartbreak after her body was discovered on the side of the road in KwaThema, Springs.

Dineo was reportedly last seen alive on Sunday. Her family had not yet reported her missing when her body was discovered.

On Wednesday afternoon, the family was called to the Springs Mortuary, where they positively identified her body.

SAPS says investigations into the murders of eight women are being intensified, with a multidisciplinary team working to establish what happened in each case and identify those responsible.

Another family left with questions, grief and a painful goodbye.

A woman was found in an extremely intoxicated state at 2nd Selbourne, Alexandra, next to the Roman Catholic Church.

The woman was reportedly so drunk that she had wet herself and could not even remember who she was or where she came from.

Sadly, the information reached Alex Reporter late, while the person who took the photographs failed to capture a clear image of her face. A proper facial photograph could have made it much easier for residents to identify her and help locate her family.

We don't know if she was eventually taken to a place of safety and by who.

RESIDENTS, PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY AND DO SO IN SAFE PLACES.

The world can be a dangerous place, especially when someone is completely vulnerable. Criminals and other people with bad intentions can take advantage of a person who is unable to protect themselves.

Please look after yourselves and your friends. If you drink, make sure you have someone you trust to take you home safely.

RENTAL WAR ERUPTS IN ALEXANDRA AS SOUTH AFRICANS TURN ON EACH OTHER

A fierce battle over rental rooms in Alexandra is reportedly tearing communities apart, with the scramble for rental income allegedly fuelling explosive disputes and violent clashes.

According to the Alexandra Police Station Commander, Brigadier Vusimuzi Ngubane, some residents who chased foreign nationals out of rental rooms allegedly seized control of the properties and began collecting rent themselves.

The shocking twist is that the rooms or houses were allegedly taken from South Africans who had built them as rental investments—deepening tensions and fuelling what police describe as a seemingly endless cycle of conflict.

But the crisis has reportedly spiralled even further. Residents are now allegedly turning on one another, fighting for control of the rooms and the monthly rental money.

The commander said that, in some cases, foreign nationals are no longer involved in the fights—South Africans are battling among themselves.

What began as anger directed at foreigners has exploded into an internal power struggle, with residents fighting to control more rooms, collect more rent and dominate the lucrative rental market.

THREE KILLED IN HORROR N4 CRASH

MPUMALANGA — A horrific multi-vehicle collision on the N4 near Ngodwana has claimed the lives of three people, including two tourists from the United Kingdom.

The deadly crash allegedly happened when a truck travelling from the D799 Kaapsehoop Road failed to negotiate the N4 intersection and slammed into three vehicles travelling along the national road.

The two UK nationals were travelling in an SUV, while the third victim was the driver of a light delivery vehicle.

All three victims died on impact.

The truck driver and another occupant of a delivery vehicle suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Kiaat Hospital for treatment.

TRUCK HIJACKING PLOT FOILED ON N3

Crime Intelligence received information about a suspected planned truck hijacking on the N3, leading police and other law-enforcement agencies to a suspected safe house in Marlboro, Johannesburg.

The suspects were not found, but officers recovered a Toyota Quantum containing JMPD uniforms and cloned number plates.

A motorbike allegedly linked to an existing Honeydew case was also recovered.

No arrests were made. The vehicles and suspected evidence were seized for further investigation.

TWO TAXI OWNERS GUNNED DOWN IN DOORNFONTEIN

JOHANNESBURG – Police are investigating a double murder after two taxi owners were shot dead in Doornfontein, Johannesburg.

The victims, aged 56 and 69, were found inside a seven-seater vehicle on Monday, 14 September 2026, after police from Jeppe SAPS responded to reports of a shooting.

Both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene, where the victims were certified dead.

Police have confirmed that the deceased were taxi owners.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown and is subject to police investigation. No arrests have been made.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could help identify and apprehend the perpetrators to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
