A devastating fire on the night of July 9, 2025, destroyed over 100 makeshift homes in Baba Ayoyo, a slum in Ahodwo, Kumasi, leaving more than 400 residents homeless. The blaze spread quickly, forcing families—mostly women and children—to flee with little or no belongings. Many victims are now sheltering in churches and with neighbors. Schoolchildren have lost supplies, and single mothers are struggling to provide essentials. Local authorities, led by Assembly Member Abraham Boadi, expect NADMO and National Security to assess the site on July 11. Victims are urgently appealing for food, clothing, and temporary housing.

One person has been arrested in connection with the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, who was reported missing on July 4, 2025. His severely burnt body was found on July 9 near the GBC Satellite in Accra. Investigations revealed that Amoah had left home the night before his disappearance after receiving messages from a man named Bright Aweh, who lured him to meet over a financial matter. Aweh was later arrested and admitted to giving Amoah GH¢500,000 but gave conflicting details about the money’s origin. Police say investigations are ongoing to bring all involved to justice.
