This song was born between journeys, stages, and conversations that brought different worlds together. Emmanuel Jal and I first performed it together in London and Nairobi, and it’s been special to watch people connect with it.

Sung in Kiswahili, Arabic, Nuer, and English, Macho is a love story that celebrates the beauty of cultural exchange, human connection, and the many ways we find each other through language and music.

Nina Simone’s “Four Women” means a lot to me. When I was asked to remix it, I knew I wanted to go deeper than the music. To sit with what Nina was actually saying and ask what it still means today. The Fifth Woman is that conversation. We shot part of it at Thebe Magugu House and in the studio of Johannesburg artist Boemo Diale, whose work explores the same territory as the song, Black womanhood, memory, what gets passed down. For the women we come from and the girls we still carry. Out now on my YouTube channel.
