✅ Yo, let's dive into some of the illest bars from the underground king, Roc Marciano. This dude's pen game is unmatched, painting vivid pictures of street life with slick wordplay and metaphors. Here are some standout lines that showcase his lyrical genius.

✅ "I broke generational curses with my cursive." This line speaks volumes about using his writing skills to overcome systemic struggles, turning his pen into a tool for change.

✅ "I made murder sexy." Roc's ability to make grim narratives sound smooth and appealing is summed up in this bold statement.

✅ "C**k a doodle doo, I put the c**k to your boo’s doo doo chute." His raw and unfiltered approach to storytelling is evident here, blending humor with explicit imagery.

✅ "I made all this cake. I’m scraping the bowl like an eight-year-old." Comparing his hustle to a kid eager for every bit of dessert, Roc emphasizes his relentless grind.

✅ "The Ferragamos came with a biscuit like a chicken combo." Here, he cleverly mixes high fashion with street slang, equating luxury shoes to a meal deal that includes a firearm.

✅ "I’m not tryna play the hero role cause the hero ain’t the sh*t but meat on a gyro roll." Roc flips the concept of a hero, suggesting it's just another item to be consumed, downplaying its significance.

✅ "My humble abode once belonged to Dutch Schultz. Coke up to my elbows. I still own the Elephant Man’s bones." This line intertwines historical references with extravagant claims, showcasing his flair for blending reality with fiction.

✅ "B*tch, I just bought a unicorn. Ho, that’s a horse with a horn." Roc's playful braggadocio shines here, turning a mythical purchase into a casual flex.

✅ "Three hundred rounds pop your hood, look like you were shot by an octopus." His vivid imagery turns a violent scene into a surreal visual, highlighting his creative descriptions.

✅ "Shorty could’ve been on the Hornets knocking down three-pointers, the release is water." Using basketball metaphors, Roc compares his associate's shooting accuracy to a pro athlete's precision.

✅ "The road to success was hell, with the bones of the dead soldiers, we left a trail." Reflecting on the sacrifices made, he portrays success as a path paved with the fallen.

✅ "I done created a lane." A straightforward acknowledgment of his unique impact on the rap game, carving out his own niche.

✅ "I’m aligning my Qi. You on the mic lying through oversized teeth." Roc contrasts his spiritual balance with others' dishonesty, using clever wordplay to call out inauthenticity.

✅ "Rock the white fur like I’m Iceberg. You see how I’m driving the Flying Spur like it’s a piece-of-sh*t Chrysler." Juxtaposing luxury with nonchalance, he downplays high-end living as if it's ordinary.

✅ Roc Marciano's lyrics are a masterclass in blending street narratives with sophisticated wordplay, solidifying his spot as a lyrical heavyweight in the rap scene.

Legendary saxophonist and jazz musician Marshall Allen single-handedly defies expectations of old age. At the age of 100, the former Sun Ra Arkestra bandleader remains just as dedicated to the pursuit of new music and art as he always has been. Now, Allen has unveiled plans for his first-ever solo album, entitled New Dawn.

Since the early 1950s, Allen has been an unavoidable name in jazz circles. Through his work alongside Sun Ra, the Kentucky-born musician was utterly essential in developing styles of avant-jazz during the mid-20th century. As such, the century-old saxophonist already boasts an expansive and incredible discography, charting his development over the previous seven decades.

Despite his iconic status within jazz and the countless vital albums Allen has played a part in, New Dawn is set to be his first solo album, released solely under his name. Prior to this announcement, the majority of Allen’s work had either been released under the Sun Ra name or featured Allen as a bandleader, co-leader, or side-man.

Alongside the announcement of New Dawn, Marshall has also released the album’s title track, featuring guest vocals from Neneh Cherry and lyrics from Knoel Scott.

Previously, Scott and Marshall played together for many years in the Sun Ra Arkestra, so the duo gelled with each other seamlessly in this song.

Producer Jan Lankisch cites Scott as being a predominant driving force behind the project, sharing, “[Scott] knew Marshall better than anyone, and his deep understanding of Marshall’s compositions guided the selection of material for the album.”

New Dawn will be released on February 14th, 2025, providing an excellent Valentine’s gift for fans of jazz and Afrofuturism everywhere. If the title track is anything to go by, the album could rank among Allen’s greatest works of recent years.
