Zóé Mwata Tsh*tuka, well known as El Soul, is a talented multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and entrepreneur hailing from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Born in the vibrant cultural landscape of the DRC and having moved to South Africa since he was a baby, El Soul's journey into music began at the tender age of five, sparked by a deep fascination with rhythm and sound. Growing up in a devout Christian family, he was immersed in the world of worship music from an early age.
His father, a church leader, provided the perfect environment for young Zóé to nurture his passion, as he served in the church choir and began experimenting with instruments during services and family gatherings. The drums were the first instrument to captivate Zóé, their powerful beats resonating with his energetic spirit. As he grew, his musical horizons expanded, and he became versatile in playing a variety of instruments, including, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, saxophone and percussions. This early exposure not only honed his skills but also instilled in him a profound appreciation for music as a form of spiritual expression and community building.
Zóé often credits his Christian upbringing for shaping his worldview, emphasizing themes of faith, perseverance, and gratitude in his work.
Seeking to professionalize his craft, Zóé pursued higher education in South Africa, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in sound engineering. This academic foundation equipped him with the technical expertise to transition from performer to producer. Today, he is a full-time music producer, blending diverse genres such as Afrobeat, house, gospel, RnB, amapiano, and soulful electronic sounds.
His ability to fuse traditional Congolese rhythms with global influences has earned him recognition as a bridge between African heritage and contemporary world music. In addition to his production work, Zóé is the founder and owner of his own record label(El Soul Productions), under which he releases his music and supports international and local emerging artists. His discography as El Soul includes his production for singles like "Po Na Nga" (2025, by Jo Melody ft Emmanuel Kapata), "African Calling" (2021, featuring Major Deep), “The Atmosphere”(2025 by Henock Dominique).
He also produced albums for artists like Jo Melody(an international gospel artist "Bolamu" (2025)—reflecting his hands-on role in the industry. These tracks showcase his innovative style, often incorporating uplifting messages and infectious grooves that appeal to audiences across borders. Zóé 's commitment to his faith extends beyond music; he co-runs a Christian podcast known as WordOfTheDay Podcast where he and his elder brother discuss spirituality, understanding the bible in a different perspective from the norm,personal growth, and the intersection of faith and creativity.
The podcast serves as a platform for inspiring listeners, featuring interviews with fellow musicians, church leaders, and everyday believers sharing testimonies of God's work in their lives. Now based in South Africa, Zóé performs across various regions of the country, from intimate church events to larger festivals, where he showcases his God-given talents. His live shows are known for their high energy, seamless instrument switches, and genre-blending sets that draw from African traditions, gospel, and modern electronic elements.
