Posing for a picture with fellow panelists Sphamandla Dlamini, Jodi Bieber,  and moderator Andiswa Mkosi (far right) after our roundtable discussion, 'Photojournalism in a Changing World,' which took place yesterday at the Market Photo Workshop. This event was part of the activities celebrating World Press Photo's 70-year anniversary exhibition, 'What Have We Done?' We tackled the thought-provoking question: How do photographs communicate and influence ideas? I hope the discussion was beneficial for those who attended.

Rocking the Black Women in Photography Conference with my squad, and some of our talented students who responded to my invite. Bringing my students along wasn't just about photography and exposure to different platforms – it was more about showing them the value of showing up for others, celebrating others' successes and instilling unity among female photographers. Was also thrilled to see my industry sister, Cape Town based photographer .hisham in attendance and finally meet in person ❤️

Photographers from across the African continent, this is for you!

Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism Workshop, Market Photo Workshop, Johannesburg

The Market Photo Workshop and the World Press Photo Foundation invite photographers in Africa to apply to participate in a 8-day Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism Workshop, which will take place in Johannesburg from 17 – 24 September 2025.

The Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism Workshop is an intense 8-day gathering of the top photography professionals, along with 10 carefully selected photographers from the continent. It will place special emphasis on building skills for long and sustainable careers in photojournalism and documentary photography. The Workshop provides lessons in documentary photography, photojournalism and the development of photo stories through practical assignments and personal projects leading to the creation of a strong portfolio of work, key for pursuing a career in media.

Participants will also have the opportunity to be involved in the development of a newspaper including the publishing of one’s own work in its pages.

The Workshop is tuition-free, accommodation and per diem/subsistence in Johannesburg will be provided. Travel expenses to Johannesburg will be incurred by the participants.

Application Procedure
The 10 participants will be chosen based on the merit of their applications.
Applicants are required to:

• Include CV and a 150-word biography in a Word document, which details your qualifications, experience and where you live and/or work.

Travel expenses to be paid for by the applicant.

A panel of judges appointed by the Market Photo Workshop will participate in the selection process; choosing applications that have merit; that candidates will be able to fully participate in the Workshop, and that they are likely to derive lasting benefits from the Workshop.
