Do not leave it for the last minute folks, the greatest doubles tournament is only a week away, speak to Franklin and Galiek to get yourself and your partner registered, you have until the 14th of August to get listed. Loads of prices to be won in the Ultimate Pairs cup happening at the Ultimate Centre on the 16th August.

The seniors tier at the PSA Nationals has reached simmering point and it’s live fireworks tonight in the Ultimate Group Seniors Opening Comp. There are only 4 contestants left and the other 89 can only watch in awe. The finalists will be smiling all the way to the bank when they get their share of the spoils.

Big up to the Ultimate Group for adding to the pot and making it a round figure of R10000.
It is once again the Cape v GP Gideon Adams (IKapa) took out world Champion Senzo in the last 8 to earn a spot in the semis against Tshepo Letshaba (SDB) and another Sedibeng sharp shooter in Milton Tsoke will tussle with WP Denzil McCauley for a place in the grand final. All this will unfold tonight at the Madiba Banquet Hall in Potchefstroom.

Well deserved Ikapa and well done. Congratulations on a stellar performance against formidable opponents in the final and after so many times of asking. This is the big one, the elusive one, the most sought after team trophy in the land and it will be paraded in Colorado Mitchell’s plain. There was an uproar in the months building to the nationals when word got out that there would be a Ground-breaking caterpillar, a Diesel Engine and a Spook in the team but no, Ikapa originals showed up and outshone, no additions were needed. History was finally made and bragging rights earned, if only you understood what Cuesports mean to the people of Cape Town you will surely give another round of applause to the Team of Marchelino James, Damian Jones, Galiek Saville, Afwaan Saville, Olwethu Mabuti Mbotyeni, Reuben Furness, Yacoob Shaik, Robin Dempers, Marlon Levendal, Imtiyaaz Martin, Nizaad Michaels, Hilton Adams (Chair) Taufeeq Murray. The Chairman is most definitely the happiest as we speak, that’s all he was asking for and the team delivered.

Looking at the lineup I’d say there were no weaklings everyone is either a National Champion or a Springbok. Mooi gedoen Ikapa, ons is baie trots op julle.

Elcano Bailey, the name already sounds like royalty, what can I say; when you’re good you’re good but the 1999 version of the Great White was a very well oiled machine, I had the privilege of asking a few people from the class of 99 about this legend and all of them developed goosebumps and their face glimmered and the excitement was ala a small child when daddy came back from work with goodies, their excitement was just immeasurable and one of them even said he was the Maradona and the Messi only he played pool. A gentleman on and off the table and this week was testament to what the colourful birds were singing about. Bailey you Rock!! Rock on buddy💪🏿

Olwethu Mabuti Mbotyeni joins the immortal group of Champions who have won the national title at least twice, (Tyrone Goliath, Sello Dick just to mention a few) the silent killer is one of the most underrated Cueists in Africa and if you look at how consistent he has been over the years perhaps you will understand what I mean. Mabuti won his first opens title when he was still a junior in 2011 to top that, in that fruitful season he won both the u23 and the Opens titles, fast forward 14 years to 2025, the man is still just as potent. Big up Briiiiiiidget Congratulations champ, class is permanent. Very well done also to the runner up Rushin Daniels nobody saw it coming but those who know, know that it’s coming, it is only a matter of time. To Elcano Bailey (The Great White) thank you for rolling back the years, ageing like fine Cape Wine, your anatomy needs to be studied at varsity, you are such a marvel to watch. To the surprise package of this year’s nationals Altaaf Sheik, Bravo, you shook the ground, they know who you are now, no longer a junior but a serious contender 🫡
