CV Says Yes, But Interview Says No.
If your CV got you in the room, it means the employer believes you can do the job. But if interviews aren’t turning into offers, the gap is usually in how you present and sell your skills. Employers want to see and hear the value behind the CV.
💡 Here’s how to bridge that gap:
1. Master Your First Impression
Greet with a firm but friendly tone.
Smile naturally - it shows confidence and warmth.
Be mindful of posture; sit upright, not stiff.
2. Practice Clear, Confident Speaking
Slow down. Nerves make us rush. Pausing is powerful.
Cut out filler words like “uhm, you know, like.”
Record yourself answering questions and listen back. You’ll notice habits you can fix.
3. Use the STAR Method for Answers
When asked about your experience, structure your response:
Situation – What was happening?
Task – What was expected of you?
Action – What did you do?
Result – What was the outcome?
This keeps your answers focused and professional.
4. Show Enthusiasm and Personality
Employers want skill, but also fit. Speak with energy.
Use positive language like “I learned,” “I achieved,” “I contributed.”
Let your passion for the role come through.
5. Listen Actively
Don’t just wait to talk — respond to what the interviewer is really asking.
Nod, paraphrase briefly, or say, “That’s a great question.” This shows engagement.
6. Prepare and Practice Aloud
Anticipate common questions: “Tell me about yourself,” “Why should we hire you?”
Practice your answers out loud, not just in your head.
Mock interviews with a friend or even in front of a mirror build fluency.
7. Close Strong
Summarize why you’re a good fit: “With my background in X and skills in Y, I can add real value in Z.”
Always thank them for their time and show interest in the next steps.
✅ Your CV sells your skills. Your interview sells you. Confidence, clarity, and preparation turn that “maybe” into a “yes.”
