IPOB Declares Unity “Non-Negotiable,” New DOS Head Nwaogu Calls for Total Support Behind Kanu
The newly appointed Head of the 4th Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Chris Nwaogu, has declared that unity within the organisation is “non-negotiable,” calling on members to close ranks and fully support the group’s detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Nwaogu made the call in his acceptance speech after being announced on Wednesday as the new head of the DOS. He stressed the need for discipline, unity, and renewed focus within the organisation under Kanu’s leadership.
Reports indicate that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, recently dissolved the 3rd DOS administration headed by Chika Edoziem. The Directorate of State, established in 2012 as IPOB’s administrative arm, has been led over the years by Dr. Justin Akujieze (1st Administration), Mazi Uchenna Asiegbu (2nd Administration), and Edoziem (3rd Administration).
In his speech, Nwaogu expressed gratitude to Kanu for the appointment and reaffirmed his loyalty to the organisation. He also paid tribute to Kanu and other members of the group, including those who have lost their lives in the Biafra struggle.
He described Kanu as steadfast despite years of incarceration and legal challenges, noting that his resilience continues to inspire supporters of the movement.
Nwaogu said the new administration would prioritise efforts to secure the unconditional release of Kanu and other detained members, while also intensifying diplomatic engagement to advance the Biafra cause internationally.
He further stated that IPOB would step up its campaign for a referendum, describing it as a peaceful and democratic path to self-determination.
He also addressed insecurity in the South-East, saying the organisation would work to counter what he called false narratives linking IPOB and its affiliates to violence in the region.
Nwaogu urged members to put aside internal differences and remain focused on the collective goals of the movement, stressing that unity is essential for progress.
He concluded by thanking the outgoing Edoziem-led administration for its service during what he described as a challenging period for the organisation.
