Kanana SAPS, through its School Safety Team, in partnership with various stakeholders, conducted a School Campaign at Mmokeng Secondary School on Tuesday, 26 August 2026.
The school was identified and prioritised following ongoing incidents of fighting and bullying among learners. The campaign formed part of ongoing efforts by the South African Police Service to create safer school environments and address challenges affecting learners.
The programme focused on raising awareness about various social crimes and other issues that negatively affect young people.
Members from the Family Violence, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Sergeant Chosi and Constable Nthebolang, educated learners about sexual abuse and r**e. Learners were encouraged to break the silence and report incidents of sexual offences, while information was also provided on where and how such crimes can be reported.
Constable Lephoi, the Sector Commander and School Safety Officer, addressed learners on bullying and its consequences, substance and drug abuse, as well as domestic violence. Learners were cautioned about the dangers associated with substance abuse and the serious consequences that bullying may have.
Adding a personal and powerful perspective to the programme, motivational speaker and former offender, Mr Thato Mafabatho, shared his life experiences and spoke about the consequences of gangsterism and involvement in criminal activities. He encouraged learners to make responsible choices, remain focused on their education and stay away from gangs and crime.
The school management and educators expressed their appreciation for the initiative and committed to continuing their collaboration with SAPS and other stakeholders to promote and maintain a safe learning environment.
