*Madlanga Commission Hears Allegations Against Top Cop in Co***ne Bust Case*

*JOHANNESBURG* — Police counter-intelligence chief *Maj-Gen Feroz Khan* allegedly misled an internal disciplinary panel to clear himself in a botched co***ne seizure, a witness told the Madlanga commission yesterday.

Warrant Officer *Steve Phakula* of SAPS’s National Intervention Unit testified that Khan gave false information to a panel led by KZN Lt-Gen *Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi*. That panel subsequently cleared Khan of wrongdoing in the “chaotic” 2021 raid.

Phakula said staff believed the 715kg of co***ne found in a container in Aeroton, south of Johannesburg, belonged to Khan. The drugs, believed to be from Brazil, were moved by truck from Durban. Some allegedly went missing during the operation.

The testimony adds new claims to the controversy around the July 2021 bust, which has been under scrutiny for its handling and missing evidence.

*Magudumana Takes Deportation Fight to ConCourt, Calls It a “Charade”*

Celebrity doctor *Nandipha Magudumana* is back in court, arguing her 2023 deportation from Tanzania to South Africa was unlawful.

Her lawyer, advocate *Anton Katz*, told the Constitutional Court on Wednesday the process was a “charade, a collusion and a ruse” — essentially a disguised extradition.

Magudumana wants the court to declare her arrest and deportation unlawful and to order her release from prison. Her legal team argues South African courts don’t have jurisdiction to try her.

The Supreme Court of Appeal already dismissed her bid last year. Now the apex court is weighing in, with justices questioning whether ruling in her favor would permanently halt any criminal prosecution.

BREAKING: The “Cat” May opt to Sing like a fat lady

Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, facing charges of corruption and attempted murder, is reportedly cutting a deal.

His lawyers have gone to Idac with an offer: testimony that could drag senior police officials and possibly politicians into the R228m tender scandal, in exchange for a lighter sentence.

The stakes just got higher. National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is already in the dock, facing 4 charges under the Public Finance Management Act. Matlala and others are charged with corruption, fraud, and money laundering.

This week, the state confirmed new info has surfaced and that they’ve consulted Matlala.

If the deal goes through, some very powerful names might have a problem.

*Mpumalanga Hawks Arrest Trio for R27m UIF COVID-19 Relief Fraud*

The Mpumalanga Hawks have arrested three people for an alleged R27 million UIF fraud scheme involving COVID-19 relief funds and 700 ghost employees.

*Who was arrested:*
1. A 48-year-old Malawian-born construction company director and permanent SA resident
2. His 48-year-old wife
3. His 39-year-old brother-in-law

*What happened:*
The trio handed themselves over to the Hawks on Sunday. According to Hawks spokesperson Lt. Col. Magonseni Nkosi, the main suspect is the director of a construction company. He allegedly unduly benefited from the COVID-19 Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (TERS), which is administered through the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

The scheme reportedly used 700 ghost employees, resulting in an actual loss of *R26,943,793.19* to the UIF.

The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on COVID-19 relief fund fraud.

Ramaphosa to Challenge Phala Phala Impeachment Process

President Cyril Ramaphosa is reportedly moving to block the Phala Phala impeachment process following a Constitutional Court ruling. ANC sources say he plans to file an urgent court interdict to stop the establishment of a Section 89 committee.

The move comes after National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza announced a 31-member impeachment committee to handle the Section 89 report. The committee includes members from most parties in the National Assembly.

ANC is said to be backing Ramaphosa’s plan to stall the proceedings. The interdict aims to prevent the committee from moving forward with the impeachment process linked to the Phala Phala scandal.

*UAE Slaps Down Netanyahu’s Claim of “Secret” Meeting with Abu Dhabi Leader*

*DUBAI* — The UAE has publicly rejected Israeli claims of a covert meeting between Prime Minister *Benjamin Netanyahu* and President *Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan*.

Netanyahu’s office said May 13 that the leaders held a “historic breakthrough” meeting during a “secret visit” to Al Ain near the Oman border.

Hours later, the UAE’s Foreign Ministry issued a swift denial, stating all relations with Israel are “public and established within the framework of the well-known and publicly declared Abraham Accords.”

The ministry added that ties “are not based on secrecy or clandestine arrangements.”
