From “you might not walk” to crossing the line in one of the biggest derbies in SA schoolboy rugby? That’s goosebumps territory.

Hayley Pieters dropped the mic with her post — raw, real, and full of fight. Gershom didn’t just prove people wrong, he rewrote the script. That try at the Boishaai vs Gim derby wasn’t just points on the board… it was a victory lap for every “you can’t” he’s ever heard.

Respect isn’t even the word. That’s legacy-building stuff.

There are happy faces. There are sad faces. And then... there’s "that" face. The face of someone who could practically taste the silverware, only for it to be ripped away like a braai chop dropped in the sand.

This season I’ve seen it all... schoolboy rugby heroes looking like they’d just conquered the world, others shocked like someone stole their USN Shake, and a few so angry they could probably scrum a Rhino into a Hilux. But this one... this was the look of a someone who almost had his hands on the winner’s trophy. Almost...

And then... p**f. Gone. Just like the Lions yesterday, who promised much but delivered about as much hope as Eskom’s load-shedding schedule. Just like poor Carlos Sainz, who was practically polishing his pole-position speech, before Verstappen swooped in like a hungry seagull at a fish-and-chips shop. The Dutchman always has the last laugh. Just ask Lewis Hamilton. Abu Dhabi 2021 still stings worse than onion smoke in your eyes.

But hey... that’s sport. It’s brutal, it’s beautiful, and it’s utterly unpredictable. Today’s Grand Prix? Nobody knows. Verstappen might dominate, Sainz might shock us, or Ferrari might do what Ferrari does best... (you decided what that means lol)

What I do know is this: WELL DONE, Griquas! Because in rugby, as in racing, one truth always stands tall...

“To finish first... you must first finish.”

And sometimes... that’s the hardest part... You did it IN STYLE!

PS. Maybe next year, I will get to shoot you in the final...Just saying ;-)

The sunrise doesn’t ask permission to shine, it just shows up, loud and unapologetic. That first crack of light across the horizon? New day, fresh play...

The air is crisp, the streets are quiet, and the world hasn’t cluttered your head with deadlines, drama, and WhatsApp notifications yet. That’s the magic hour... the time when your mind is clearest and your energy is rawest.

And then there’s the seagull, cutting across the sky like it owns the whole J-Bay coastline. No rush, no hesitation, just wings out, gliding into opportunity. It’s not worried about yesterday’s waves or tomorrow’s storms. It’s here, in the now, chasing the light.

So, what’s the move? Get up before the noise. Stretch. Breathe. Watch the sky turn gold. Take notes from the seagull... rise higher, ride smoother, aim fearless. The day belongs to whoever claims it first!

Five seconds. That’s it. The difference between looking like David Attenborough with a camera… or looking like oom Koos who accidentally left his lens cap on.

Because in motorsport, wildlife, or even your mate’s surprise marriage proposal, five seconds is the brutal line between “National Geographic cover shot” and “blurry photo of someone’s elbow disappearing out of frame.”

Photographers know this pain. You wait. You stalk. You time the shutter like a sniper with patience forged in braais and bad coffee… and then, because you fiddled with the ISO for half a heartbeat too long, all you catch is the tail, the dust cloud, or the awkward aftermath where everyone’s already clapping.

Five seconds. The gap between glory and "ag, shame." This could have been a great shot, but it turned out to be a distant memory...

The King Price Derby Series 2025 - It was spectacular to say the least. We had good and bad weather, massive tackles, impressive tries...but most of all, SA has found future Boks! Took the Nissan Navara Warrior out for a stretch, and let’s just say, it wasn’t a Sunday drive…cause it was Saturday! From the very beginning, they’ve had my back and given me the opportunity to do what I love most... telling stories through my lens. Because of their support, I’ve been able to capture moments across the world : from international motor shows, wildlife to sports, concerts to corporate, and everything in between!
