One of the concerns being raised about the proposed Somatology Register is the potential impact it could have on product retailing within our profession.

If the proposal is implemented in its current form, stakeholders have expressed concerns that:

• Somatologists may no longer be able to retail professional skincare products.

• Therapists who currently earn commission through retail sales could lose an important source of income.

• Product houses may lose an important professional retail channel.

These are not simply business concerns—they have the potential to affect career opportunities, earning potential and the sustainability of many businesses across our industry.

This is why it is so important for every therapist, educator, employer, product house and industry professional to understand what is being proposed and to participate in the conversation.

Many people know me through GGH Beauty Marketing, but what some may not know is that my journey in the beauty industry began back in 2003.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with beauty brands, being involved in the lash industry, and even developing and selling my own hair shampoo brand.

These experiences taught me that building a successful beauty business takes passion, dedication, resilience, and the right marketing strategy.

Reminder to all SAAHSP members to send your comments to your Professional Body before 12 JUNE 2026. This is for the proposed amendments of the rules and regulations which Allied Health have sent out.

Why are you being invited to comment? The Potential Somatology Register will mean that all Somatolgoists will need to be registered with Allied Health and Regulations stipulating no open shop and no product sale commissions will be implemented.

Online Engagement sessions recently confirmed the following:

- Commission will be allowed for treatments ONLY
- No open shop will be allowed
- No commission for product sales will be allowed
