CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL GUN! LESOTHO MAN ARRESTED AS POLICE CRACK DOWN ON FI****MS

A 41-year-old man, believed to be a Lesotho national, has been arrested in Marikana after police allegedly found an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a replica firearm during an intelligence-driven operation.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday, 30 July 2026, at his residence in Lapologang, Marikana, after members of the Marikana Crime Prevention Unit, assisted by Crime Intelligence and the Rustenburg Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), acted on information about the alleged illegal weapon.

During the search, officers recovered and seized an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a replica firearm. The suspect was immediately taken into custody.

He is expected to appear before the Marikana Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, where he will face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Adams praised the operation, saying police will continue their relentless fight against illegal fi****ms.

"Our relentless pursuit to rid the communities of the North West of illegal fi****ms will continue. Perpetrators will be brought before the courts and will face the full might of the criminal justice system," he said.

SAPS SEIZES R28 MILLION CO***NE HAUL AT OR TAMBO AIRPORT

JOHANNESBURG – South African Police Service (SAPS) officers have dealt a major blow to international drug trafficking after seizing 95kg of co***ne worth an estimated R28 million at OR Tambo International Airport.

The massive drug bust took place on Friday, 31 July 2026, following an intelligence-driven operation led by the SAPS Crime Intelligence Border Integrity Unit.

According to police, intelligence indicated that a shipment of co***ne was on its way to South Africa. The information was immediately shared with SAPS Visible Policing officers stationed at OR Tambo International Airport, who worked alongside Customs officials and Menzies Aviation operational staff to intercept the cargo.

The shipment had arrived on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil, and was intercepted shortly after landing at around 13:00.

A search of the cargo led to the discovery of 95 kilograms of co***ne, which was confiscated before it could leave the airport's cargo section.

No arrests have been made so far.

Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing to identify and arrest those behind the attempted drug smuggling operation, including members of the international syndicate believed to be responsible.

SAPS says the seizure is part of its ongoing campaign to dismantle organised crime networks and prevent South Africa's airports, harbours and border posts from being used as transit routes for illegal drugs and other illicit goods. .

[TWO SHOPS SIMULTANEOUSLY ROBBED IN TSOLO CBD - SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN QUMBU]

The OR Tambo police continued with their hardwork and dedication in fighting crime as they arrested nine (09) male suspects aged between 18 -23 years old in Qumbu CBD, for allegedly robbing two shops in Tsolo CBD simultaneously on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, at about 13:00.

Working as two groups, the suspects carried out armed robberies in two shops simultaneously and got away in a Toyota bakkie towards Qumbu. Tsolo police were informed of the robberies and asked Qumbu police for backup. Nine (09) male suspects were cornered in a house in Qumbu whilst counting money they allegedly robbed. One 9mm pistol (erased serial number) having ammunition and a toy gun (9mm replica) were recovered from two suspects. Also recovered were five cellphones allegedly robbed during a previous business robbery in Qumbu. Investigations are ongoing to check for any linkage of suspects to other committed crimes.

All these suspects are due to appear before Qumbu/Tsolo Magistrates Courts on Friday, 31 July 2026, facing charges ranging from armed business robberies, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition to possession of robbed articles (Cellphones and money). .

[65-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF SUSPECTED STOLEN COPPER CABLE IN GQEBERHA]

Members of SAPS Swartkops arrested a 65-year-old man for possession of suspected stolen copper cable at approximately 01:20 on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, in Swartkops, Gqeberha.

Police officers were conducting patrols when they noticed a suspicious white Nissan Navara bakkie parked in the bushes near Ngubelanga Street in Wells Estate. Police approached the vehicle, and five suspects began throwing bundles of copper cable from the back of the bakkie.

Police managed to arrest one suspect, while the remaining four fled the scene in the vehicle. Approximately 100 kilograms of copper cable were recovered and confiscated.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property has been opened at Swartkops Police Station.

The suspect appeared in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 30 July 2026.

[MIDDELBURG FLYING SQUAD ARRESTS SUSPECT AND RECOVERS STOLEN VEHICLE AND MINE PROPERTY WORTH R500 000]

A multi-disciplinary operation led by the Middelburg Flying Squad has resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old man and the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle and mining equipment with an estimated value of R500 000-00 in Middelburg on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.

The success follows crime intelligence information regarding a stolen white Toyota Hilux GD6 Single Cab which was reported in Witbank. Acting on the information, members from the Middelburg Flying Squad, Provincial National Security, Tracker Connect and Bidvest Security proceeded to the Truck Stop Facility where the stolen vehicle was recovered.

Preliminary investigation led the police to identify the person who delivered the vehicle to the yard as an employee at one of the mines. With the assistance of a private security company, the suspect was brought to the police station.

Further investigation revealed the keys to the stolen vehicle were hidden inside the suspect’s red Mitsubishi bakkie at the mine. The suspect was subsequently arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

Members further followed up information and conducted a search at the suspect’s residence where additional suspected stolen property belonging to the mine was recovered. Items seized include gas cylinders, a starter, hydraulic gear pump, alternator, wiper motor, CAT diesel prime pump, extension cables, CAT aircon pressure pump, a trailer and a water tank.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property and defeating the ends of Justice was opened at Witbank Police Station.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court soon. .

TEMBISA ARRESTS LEAD TO RECOVERY OF UNLICENSED REVOLVER AND 46 ROUNDS.

Two men have been arrested in Tembisa after the Benoni Flying Squad recovered an unlicensed Ta**us revolver and 46 rounds of live ammunition during an early-morning operation.

The arrests followed information received from a detective at Tembisa SAPS about a firearm allegedly being kept at a residence in Ndaba Street, Emangweni Section, at around 2.40am on Thursday.

Flying Squad members responded to the information and found two men, aged 41 and 21, inside a back room at the residence. They were arrested after police recovered the revolver and ammunition.

An empty cartridge found inside the room was also seized and booked for forensic analysis.

The Tembisa arrests formed part of a wider operation by the Benoni Flying Squad between Monday and Thursday, during which four suspects were arrested and drugs, a firearm and ammunition were recovered.

Two other suspects, aged 21 and 25, were arrested separately on Monday at Barcelona Extension 34 and Emaphupheni Extension 10 for drug-related offences. Police recovered crystal m**hamphetamine and nyaope in the separate incidents.

All four suspects are expected to appear in local Magistrates' Courts on charges including possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs. .

[HAWKS AND SARS BUSTS ALCOHOL STORAGE FACILITY WORTH MILLIONS OF RANDS]

On Wednesday, 29 July 2026 the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Headquarters Pretoria working together with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) conducted a raid in Kempton Park area on a premises identified as a storage facility for imported ethanol.

The joint team discovered the consignment being off-loaded at an unlicensed and unregistered facility into 1000 litre flow bins. The police further discovered other flow bins on site and storage tanks.

No arrests have been made yet. Investigation is ongoing.

[POLICE ARREST TRUCK DRIVER FOR POSSESSION OF MANDRAX TABLETS]

Efforts to curb the distribution of drugs led to the arrest of a suspect for possession of drugs in De Doorns on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.

Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Counterfeit and Policing Team received information about drugs being transported from Cape Town to Johannesburg. A description of the truck and the suspect was provided, and an operational plan was put in place. The truck was stopped on the N1 and searched. The members found 550 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R50 000 and an undisclosed amount of cash in the truck. A 46-year-old male was arrested for possession of drugs.

The suspect is due to appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.

In an unrelated intervention, members of Operation Shanela were conducting stop-and-search operations in Parkin Court, Lavender Hill, when they searched a male and found 14 Mandrax tablets in his possession. The 43-year-old suspect faces a charge of possession of drugs.

In Hilary Drive, Lavender Hill, members stopped and searched a male who was acting suspiciously when he saw the police vehicle. During the search, the members found 12 small packets containing crystal m**h in his possession. The 46-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs.

Both suspects appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court, respectively.

[NINE STOLEN SHEEP RECOVERED, TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR STOCK THEFT]

An intelligence-driven operation by the Fouriesburg Stock Theft Unit and Bethlehem Crime Intelligence has led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of nine stolen sheep in Vogelfontein, near Bethlehem.

The complainant reported that on the morning of 24 July 2026, she discovered that nine sheep, valued at approximately R20 000, were missing from her farm after conducting a livestock count. She immediately began searching for the missing animals.

On Sunday, 26 July 2026, she received information that someone was urgently looking for a buyer for the sheep. She promptly reported the information to the police.

Acting on the intelligence, members of the Fouriesburg Stock Theft Unit and Bethlehem Crime Intelligence traced the information to a house in Vogelfontein. A 25-year-old suspect was found in possession of a sheep carcass and was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for its possession.

Further investigation led police to another house in the same area, where a 34-year-old suspect was also found in possession of sheep carcasses. Police recovered all nine stolen sheep during the operation.

Upon inspection of the ear tattoo marks, the sheep were positively identified as belonging to the complainant and were handed back to their rightful owner.

The two suspects, aged 25 and 34, appeared briefly before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026, on charges of . The case was postponed to Wednesday, 5 August 2026, for a formal bail application.

[76-YEAR-OLD POFADDER WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED DEALING IN DAGGA]

Members of the SAPS in the Namakwa District continue to intensify their efforts to combat the distribution and sale of illicit drugs in the Namakwa policing precinct.

On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, at approximately 08:00, members attached to the Namakwa District Task Team (Shift A and Shift executed a tactical operation at a residence in Madeliefie Laan in Pofadder, following information received regarding alleged drug-dealing activities.

The information was swiftly operationalised, and police members proceeded to the identified premises, where they found a 76-year-old female occupant.

A search conducted at the residence led to the seizure of suspected dagga, as well as cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales.

The 76-year-old female was arrested on a charge of dealing in dagga and appeared in the Pofadder Magistrate’s Court on the same day.
