JOKING ABOUT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS NO LAUGHING MATTER

Joking about the r**e and killing of women — serious crimes that have devastated families and communities — is deeply inappropriate.

Sol and MacG should have known better. Violence against women is not entertainment, nor is it a subject to be used for cheap laughs.

Eight women lost their lives, leaving families and communities to deal with unimaginable pain and loss.

Sol has since apologised for his remarks, acknowledging the seriousness of the issue.

There is a time for entertainment and humour, but when the subject involves r**e, murder and the lives of women, sensitivity and respect should come first.

CAT MATLALA TRIAL | COURT DISMISSES DEFENCE OBJECTION TO MEDICAL RECORDS

The Johannesburg High Court has dismissed the defence’s objection to the admission of medical-record entries in the attempted-murder trial involving Musa Kekana and alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The defence argued that the medical notes amounted to unproven hearsay and should not be relied upon to challenge Kekana’s credibility.

However, Judge Moosa ruled that statements in the medical records that were attributed directly to Kekana himself are not hearsay and may be used as evidence.

The ruling comes as Kekana’s evidence continues in the trial-within-a-trial, where the circumstances surrounding his arrest and subsequent treatment are being examined.

R100K BRIBE REJECTED | TWO ZIMBABWEAN NATIONALS ARRESTED IN LIMPOPO

Two Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in Masisi, Vhembe District, after Limpopo traffic officers allegedly intercepted a vehicle transporting cough syrup and other medication without the required pharmaceutical licence or certificate.

The vehicle, carrying the two Zimbabwean nationals and two South African nationals, was stopped during a stop-and-check operation conducted by Provincial Inspectors Khubana and Nwendamutswu.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the suspects allegedly attempted to avoid arrest by offering the traffic officers a R100,000 bribe.

The officers reportedly rejected the alleged bribe, and an additional arrest was made on a bribery charge.

The suspects were handed over to Malamulele Police Station, where a case was registered.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety Nakedi Kekana commended the officers for their integrity and commitment to the rule of law.
