RACY RACE WITH SOUL COMING UP
The Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer, presented by Biogen, is far more than the standard mountain bike stage race. It is the Race with Soul. An event that blends highly competitive UCI and age-category racing with a relaxed race village atmosphere. Even for the elite men and women lining up to fight it out over the five days of the 2025 event, from 30 September to 4 October, there are reasons to look forward to both the racing and the off-the-bike time. It is for this reason that two of the defending champions are so eager to return to the Garden Route, Langkloof, and Klein Karoo.

South Africa’s Alan Hatherly retained the momentum that won him his second XCO World Championship last week by winning Round 8 of the 2025 UCI World Cup Series in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Hatherly took the lead on Lap 4 of 8 and then built up an unassailable lead to claim his third XCO World Cup victory.

GLACIER STORMS RIVER TRAVERSE: BOOK YOUR 2026 SPOT FOR FOREST FUN
The Glacier Storms River Traverse is renowned for providing fun on and off the bike. In fact, it is probably better known for the festive atmosphere in the Tsitsikamma Village Inn race village than it is for the riding… though the latter is certainly exhilarating too! CHAMPS CROWNED AT TRAILSEEKER SERIES FINALE
The 2025 Ford Trailseeker Series had it all: soaring victories, crushing setbacks, a record-breaking field, and unforgettable moments that will go down in South African mountain biking history. From the January opener in Banhoek to the spectacular finale in Wellington, riders were tested across six events in four provinces. The Cradle, Die Bosveld, Sondela, and Van Gaalen each offered their own unique challenges, building towards a crescendo that captured the very essence of the sport.

Burry Stander was the first South African to compete at the highest level of XCO mountain bike racing. He was a great rival to Swiss aces Nino Schurter and Mathias Fluckiger, among several others.
He was killed in 2013 at the age of 25 while training on his road bike by a taxi driver that broke the law. At the time of his death Burry had won two World Cup races, while Nino had won three. Nino went on to win a total of 36 World Cup races in his career (a record) and will race his final World Cup race in Lenzerheide this week.
Today, 16 September 2025, is the 38th anniversary of Burry Stander’s birth. We’ll be raising a chocolate Super M in remembrance of the great man today.
