DYNAMIC, DIVERSE & DIFFERENT: INTRODUCING THE 2027 GARDEN ROUTE GIRO ROUTE
There are so many roads to explore. The 2027 Garden Route Giro does just that as it takes on an entirely different course to the inaugural edition, promising returning and new participants alike a unique riding experience while building on the successes of the 2026 race. Taking place from the 19th to the 24th of April next year, the second Garden Route Giro will visit George, De Rust, Prince Albert, Volmoed near Oudtshoorn, Riversdale, and Hartenbos before returning to George. In total, the 2027 race will take in 593 kilometres of racing, 78% of which will be proper gravel, with 8 750 metres of accumulated elevation gain.

NEW ROUTE, NEW WINNERS AT 2026 KING PRICE RACE TO THE SEA
Jaedon Terlouw completed a 100-Miler double, adding the King Price Race to the Sea crown to the King Price Race to the Sun title he won in May, on 5th of September 2026. Lisa Bone outkicked Hayley Preen in the final 200 metres of the 153-kilometre course to win by just 14 seconds. The new start venue and updated route proved exceptionally popular, despite a strong southeasterly wind creating a headwind for a difficult 30-kilometre segment in the middle of the route.

There has been plenty of hype around the new SCOTT Spark RC, and with good reason. This is SCOTT’s fifth-generation XC race bike, designed first and foremost to help professional racers win World Cup XCO races. But that isn’t necessarily how most Spark RCs sold in South Africa will be used. For most, a bike like this will spend its time tackling marathon races, stage races and long days of singletrack. THE BIKE BRANDS GAINING & LOSING GROUND IN SOUTH AFRICA
Seven years of TREAD Media’s South African Mountain Biking Survey data reveal some dramatic shifts in the brands South African mountain bikers choose to ride. In the first of a series of our survey analysis articles, we examine the movement among mountain bike brands.
There is something particularly useful about looking at a bike-brand popularity table once every year. It tells us who is winning right now.
But look at the same question over seven years and the story becomes much more interesting. Suddenly, the brands at the top aren’t necessarily the most interesting ones.

ANOTHER SWISS EPIC PODIUM FOR PRITZEN, STELHI
South African Marathon Champion, Marc Pritzen and his Swiss Honeycomb 226ERS teammate, Felix Stelhi, finished third on Stage 3 of the 2026 Swiss Epic and retained their third place overall with two stages remaining.
Heavy rain, low cloud cover, and near-freezing temperatures forced the Swiss Epic race organisers to reroute the course for the second day in a row. The towering 2 600-metre Scaletta Pass had to be avoided which meant that the race could not cross the Alps from La Punt to Davos by bike. In the interest of rider safety, a 61-kilometre loop around the Engadin Valley was devised. The newly created Stage 3 route was an undulating one, which suited the powerful riders more than the lithe climbers.
The stage was won by Torpado Kenda FSA 2’s Gioele de Cosmo and Jakob Dorigoni. Engadin La Punt’s Fadri Barandun and Andrin Beeli finished fourth on the stage and retained the overall lead.
In the women’s race, Anna Weinbeer and Claudia Peretti (KTM Spada | Brenta Brakes – Olympia) won the stage and extended their overall lead.
For Stage 4, a short and challenging 55-kilometre with 2150m of ascent awaits in Davos.

SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM WINS ON 32-INCH BIKES, MAKES EPIC SERIES HISTORY
Honeycomb 226ers became the first team to win a stage at an Epic Series stage race on 32-inch wheels when Marc Pritzen and Felix Stehli won Stage 2 of the 2026 Swiss Epic. The South African/Swiss pairing charged through a shortened 24-kilometre time trial course to win the day in 43 minutes and 13 seconds and move up to third in the general classification standings.
The Elite Women's race leaders, Anna Weinbeer and Claudia Peretti, of KTM Spada Brenta Brakes - Olympia, doubled up, adding Stage 2 honours to their Stage 1 victory, firming up their grip on the orange CIOVITA jerseys in the rain and mud of La Punt.
