Waking up on my Birthday Eve to these gorgeous pre-birthday gifts from hubby..
.Truth be told, I get flowers every week from him (and have since the day we met) so I guess you could say every day is my birthday, but the champagnes a nice touch! 🎁🌹πŸ₯‚πŸΎ

in Waterberg with a bottle of the Director's Reserve Red to finish up what has been a much-needed break before we dig into 2026.

Composition of the 2021 Vintage:
70% Cabernet Sauvignon
14% Petit Verdot
10% Merlot
4% Cabernet Franc
2% Malbec

What you can expect?
The wine enters the palate with incredible purity and focus, with flavours of dark cherries, blackberries and plum skin. Sumptuous and full there is a hint of tension on the mid-palate which leads to fine, dense tannins and a lengthy finish.

.We ordered the Chicken Salad, and this might well be the first time that we've ordered a salad and gotten more chicken than salad. No complaints so far. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘Œ

Grilled chicken breast with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, danish feta and a garlic lemon dressing. The chicken was a little overdone which made it drier than we'd like, but still tasty.

Tokara Tuesday, surrounded by wildflowers and these picturesque Waterberg views?
Yes!
Their Reserve Collection Elgin Sauvi B is a favourite, but especially in Summer, served ice cold.

This Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes grown on Tokara's Highlands farm in Elgin.
The wine is blended from a handful of their top performing blocks on this property, each chosen for their flavour and aromatic profile.

What you can expect?
On the nose the wine opens with lime blossom and passion fruit. The palate is bright and refreshing with crystalline focus, best served cold as an aperitif.

One of the few people who stood out for us during our stay at Summerplace has to be our guide, Aaron. Natively, a Joburg boy, he looks right at home in the Reserve and has a clear love for all things wildlife.

Sightings during our stay (and drives with him) have included Kudu, Impala, Warthog, Zebra, a Golden Wildebeest, Giraffe, Eland, South African Ground Squirrel, Kudu, Roan, and two very cute tortoises that crossed our path.

Thanks Aaron for going over and above to make our visit special!

Our Summer Celebration Box from Groot Phesantekraal is the gift that keeps on giving. This afternoon, we've opened their vivacious Sparkling Chenin Blanc to enjoy.

What you can expect?
Intense tropical aromas extending from guava, pear and citrus notes ranging from grapefruit to lemon. The palate is voluptuous with a smooth tropical finish (we're noticing a trend).

Personally, this sparkling wine wasn't our favourite of the curated mixed case, but nonetheless it is perfect for sunny afternoons and festive nights.
