What to order?
One of their Seafood combos or their calamari which has a reputation for being the best on the Coast at an unbeatable price which is why some locals say that this Café is the best kept secret in Ramsgate.

Their motto (which aptly sums up their location)?

It's our last day on holiday, it's and we're rewarding ourselves with bubbles for breakfast, because who doesn't need a sparkling Chardonnay today?!

L'Ormarins Brut Classique

What you can expect?
Tangy lime and grapefruit with a marmalade twist, and an understated apple and toast nuance which adds complexity and dimension.

Vibrant, fresh, crisp, elegant, and beautifully resolved with a dry finale. 🥂

After an early start to the day the rain has settled in and we've headed to C-Bali Restaurant at St Michael's on Sea, Shelly Beach for a lazy lunch.

Although, over the years, this has been our go-to for sushi, today we're after their famed seafood potjie, The Flying Dutchman.
A medley of prawns, crispy hake nuggets fried, half shell mussels and calamari grilled in a creamy, lemon garlic and parsley sauce, served of course in a truly South African way

Pairing?
A bottle of Rietvallei Calcrete Chard from the limestone-rich wine appellation of Robertson.
(If you haven't yet ready anything I've written about the Calcrete initiative, do yourself a favour and do a little homework on it).

A safe environment for a more relaxed sea swimming experience, for swimmers, like me who are a little intimidated by the choppy Indian Ocean!
The pool is refreshed by the changing tides and often has some little fish in too.

Tidal pools and natural rock pools are found all along the lower South Coast from Hibberdene to Port Shepstone, Shelly Beach, St Michael’s on Sea, Uvongo, Margate, Ramsgate, Southbroom, Marina Beach, Palm Beach and Port Edward, so really we're spoilt for choice!

It's not a beach day without at least one bottle of Chardonnay!

Our Chardonnay of choice today is a staple in our home and when we travel, so much so that I don't usually travel without a case of it.

De Wetshof Estate Limestone Hill 2025 emits optimum varietal expression in a cloak of rich complexity. An un-wooded wine, that has notes of grapefruit and nuts, with the complexity balanced by a nuanced elegance ending with a delicate ripeness.
