Focus on foreign policy, culture, and partnerships with the African continent. The German Information Centre Africa is a virtual window that shows the diversity of modern-day Germany and its multi-faceted links and partnerships with African countries. It is designed to enhance the flow of information to those in Africa interested in Germany. The GIC is a public diplomacy initiative of Germany's Federal Foreign Office. The website http://www.germanyinafrica.diplo.de offers English-language stories with a German-African angle, as well as information on business, education, research, politics, sports and culture in Germany. Current information is available in RSS feeds as well as a bi-monthly electronic newsletter or via this page. Pretoria was chosen as the site for the centre reflecting its role as a media and communications hub within Africa. Germany recognises the huge growth potential in internet usage across Africa due to improvements in technical infrastructure and welcomes the promised rise in connectivity to the continent and its people.

That’s the idea behind the German-African Business Days taking place across the continent - recently in South Africa 🇿🇦 and previously in Ghana 🇬🇭, Senegal 🇸🇳, Nigeria 🇳🇬, Kenya 🇰🇪, Zambia 🇿🇲 and beyond.

They bring German businesses, policymakers and development partners together to explore how investment and development cooperation can reinforce each other: creating jobs, strengthening local value chains, building skills and opening new opportunities for trade and investment.

At a time when others retreat, Germany remains committed to Africa - as a reliable partner in both trade and development. ✅

History is heading to Nairobi. 🇰🇪🏃🏾‍♀️

Kenya has been selected to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, making it the first time the event will be held in Africa. 🌍 Nairobi’s successful bid builds on Kenya’s extraordinary athletics legacy and its experience hosting major international competitions.

From producing some of the world’s greatest runners to now welcoming the world’s best athletes, this is a landmark moment for Kenya and for African sport. 👏🏾

And two years later, the Championships will return to Germany, with Munich hosting in 2031. 🇩🇪🏃🏾‍♂️

It's a celebration! 🎉 🥳 53 years ago today, Germany joined the United Nations, marking a major step in its return to the international community. 🇩🇪🇺🇳

Since then, Germany has become one of the UN’s largest contributors, supporting peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and development.

Its engagement also extends across Africa, including peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and cooperation with Namibia on the UN Pact for the Future. 🌍

Amid geopolitical tensions, Germany remains a reliable partner committed to strengthening multilateral cooperation and a rules-based international order.

When singers from different countries come together, it’s about more than making music. It’s about listening, learning from one another and creating something new. 🤝🌍

This September, joint concerts by South African choirs 🇿🇦 and Germany’s National Youth Choir 🇩🇪 are bringing young singers together.

One special highlight: the world premiere of "Let Their Light Continue to Shine" by South African singer and composer Musa Nkuna, performed by young German and South African singers from the Wits Music Department Choir.

Because sometimes, the strongest connections don’t need words. They just need a shared song. 🎵❤️

Europe just reached a new space milestone. 🚀

🇩🇪 German space company Isar Aerospace​ has successfully placed five satellites into Earth orbit with its Spectrum rocket, the first successful orbital flight launched from the European continent. The company has called it a “turning point for Europe”. 🇪🇺

A big step for Germany’s growing space sector and for Europe’s independent access to space. 🛰️

🌍 Think you know how big Africa is? Your world map may have misled you.

🗺️ The United Nations​ General Assembly has backed the African-led “Correct the Map” initiative — encouraging the use of equal-area maps, including the Equal Earth projection, when representing the relative size of continents.

🇩🇪 Germany was among the 164 countries that voted in favour of the resolution.

Why does that matter?

Many of the world maps we are most familiar with distort land area, making regions closer to the poles appear disproportionately large. Equal-area projections offer a more accurate picture of the relative size of continents — including Africa.

‼️ The initiative is about more than cartography. It is about representation, visibility, and seeing our world in its true proportions.

225 missions. One meeting point: Berlin 🇩🇪🌍

Last week, the heads of Germany’s missions abroad came together for the Ambassadors' Conference, known as , to discuss Germany’s foreign policy priorities and how to put them into practice.

Through workshops and exchanges with representatives from politics, business, science and culture, the conference connected the work of Germany’s global diplomatic network with the challenges facing Germany, Europe, and the world.

The aim: a Foreign Service equipped to protect security & freedom, support prosperity and respond to a changing world.
