Need big game temperament? Look no further than Spitfire. Having worked with soccer legend Lucas Radebe’s before it made perfect sense that, when Lay’s South Africa needed to shoot a local version of their global campaign, “No Lays, No Game”, Spitfire once again received the call up.

Built on impeccable timing and intuitive editing, Spitfire’s new work for Lay’s projects a level of authenticity that has the viewer eating out of our hand. Especially if that hand happens to hold a packet of Lay’s.

Which is the basis of the commercial. Centred around Lucas’s search for the perfect bar to watch the big game – in other words, a bar that serves Lay’s – together with his son Primo Baloyi, the hunt is on for the right place at the right time with the right chips. Needless to say, Lucas scores the Lay’s, and Spitfire scores with another winning piece of work.

Every now and then someone comes along who changes their piece of the world forever. Thakzin – real name Thabang Mathebula – Producer, DJ, and part Ninja is one such artist. Inspired by the deeply spiritual sounds of his upbringing, listening to the sounds of sangomas chanting through the night. The originator of 3-Step, which is now an Amapiano sub-genre has played a part in Thakzin’s musical career going on an incredible trajectory. Taking him to headline clubs and events in Europe, North America and beyond. Thakzin’s groundbreaking style caught the attention of Spotify. He is now featuring on the Spotify Radar series, a documentary online series with its finger on the pulse on artists on their upward journey.

Spitfire Director, Katlego Baaitse, was approached by Spotify Africa to create a short documentary about Thakzin, his life, his music and the people around him. Created, is a film that pulls you from the beginning with its immersive chants and dreamlike cinematography. The film is layered with complex and rhythmic sound design, with music playing a part in the storytelling.

It’s a project that’s sparked a healthy dose of intense creativity in Katlego himself, because the extraordinary power and elegance of his latest work for Spotify is matched only by Thakzin’s own obsessive and uncompromising commitment to his art.

A formidable logistical challenge, AK’s talent for seeing the big picture and his ability to manage the many moving parts of large projects – with the in-camera skills to capture it every moment beautifully – helped SA Tourism find their joy in persuading international travellers to do the same. We threw one of our famous mixers in May—before the cold crept in and no one wanted to leave their couch.

And yeah, it looked like just another party. But we’ll admit it… we had an ulterior motive. Because while there was tequila and questionable dance moves, what we really care about is human connection.

We’ve spent 13 years building a wild, beautiful web of clients and collaborators. And in a world of screens and pings and AI everything—it felt damn good to just be in a room together.

Full hearts. Slightly sore heads. Worth it.
