Should actors be creating content on social media?

Some say focus on the craft. Others see TikTok and Instagram as a way to showcase creativity, build confidence and connect with audiences.

Social media shouldn't replace your craft—but it can complement it.

So, actors: should you be creating content, or letting your work speak for itself?👇

Just because you're not acting right now doesn't mean you're not growing as an actor.

Not every season of your acting career will be filled with auditions, rehearsals or time on set—and that's okay.

The quieter seasons are where you can sharpen your craft.

✨ Read a play.
✨ Watch films with curiosity, not just for entertainment.
✨ Observe people and build new characters.
✨ Practise accents.
✨ Write monologues.
✨ Record self-tapes.
✨ Take a walk and imagine the stories of the people you pass.

Every experience, every conversation and every observation becomes something you can draw from in a future performance.

Being creative isn't reserved for the days you're booked.

It's a habit.

And the actors who continue creating, learning and observing—even between jobs—often arrive at their next opportunity more prepared than they were before.

How are you staying creative while you're waiting for your next audition? I'd love to hear your ideas below. 👇

Want to become a more believable actor? Start watching people.

One of the most valuable acting exercises doesn't require a class, expensive equipment or even a script. It simply requires observation.

The next time you're at a coffee shop, shopping centre or sitting in a waiting room, take a moment to really notice the people around you.

Look for the little things:
A moment of hesitation before they speak.
Nervous laughter when they're uncomfortable.
The way they make—or avoid—eye contact.
The pauses and silences between conversations.
How their breathing changes when they're excited, anxious or relaxed.

These are the details that make characters feel real.

As actors, our job isn't to invent human behaviour—it's to observe it, understand it and bring it to life truthfully.

Real people are your greatest source of inspiration.

🎬 This week, challenge yourself to observe one person and recreate their mannerisms when you get home. You might be surprised by what you discover.

What behaviour have you noticed recently that would make an interesting character? Share it below 👇
