Lusaka — Former Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu has vowed to make the return of JJ Banda to Zambia his main priority in the next five years.

Mwiimbu, who is widely expected to be appointed to a ministerial position in this cabinet, said regardless of which ministry he will be given, his main task will be to ensure JJ Banda is brought back to face the law.

Speaking to ECL Tv News this morning,Mwiimbu said: Whichever ministry I will be given, I am going to bring back JJ Banda this time. I am not going to sleep. That will be my main task for the next five years - to catch JJ.

His remarks come amid ongoing public interest in the whereabouts and legal status of JJ Banda, who has been at the center of political discussions over the past 5 years by upnd government.

JJ Banda, a former Petauke Central MP, has been a subject of police interest with authorities previously indicating they were looking for him in connection with various political allegations.

Lusaka— Former pastor and Vice President Dr. Nevers Mumba has declared that he will not pay back the benefits he received as a former Vice President, saying his position stands whether Zambians like it or not.

Dr. Mumba, who served as Zambia's Vice President under the late President Levy Mwanawasa, made the remarks amid renewed public debate on whether former leaders who return to active politics should refund retirement benefits.

What Mumba Said
In a strongly worded statement, the former pastor and MMD leader said:

"Whether Zambians like it or not, I will not pay back the benefits. I served this country as Vice President, and those benefits are my legal entitlement."

He maintained that the benefits were not a favour from government, but a right provided for under the Benefits of Former Presidents Act, which covers former Presidents and Vice Presidents.

Background To The Debate
The discussion started after some members of the public and political commentators argued that former leaders who re-enter active politics should surrender their benefits.

Dr. Mumba has, however, dismissed that argument, stating that the law does not require him to pay back anything he received legally.

"If they think the law says I should pay, let them take me to court," he added.

Public Reaction
The statement has divided opinion. Some Zambians say former leaders should lead by example and give up benefits when they return to politics, while others agree with Mumba that the law is clear and benefits are earned through service.

The government has not yet commented on whether it will pursue recovery of benefits from Nevers Mumba.

Lusaka Zambia– Former Vice President and MMD President Dr. Nevers Mumba has announced his resignation from active politics, citing disappointment after being left out of the recent Cabinet appointments.

In a statement issued in Lusaka, Dr. Mumba said he had served the nation for decades in various capacities but believes it is time to step aside and allow new leaders to take up the mantle.

“After careful reflection, I have decided to resign from active politics. This decision follows my exclusion from the latest Cabinet appointments despite my commitment to serve,” Dr. Mumba stated.

He thanked his supporters, party members, and the people of Zambia for the trust they placed in him over the years as Vice President, Ambassador, Church leader, and political party president.

I remain patriotic to Zambia. I will continue to contribute to national development through other avenues outside active politics,” he added.

Dr. Mumba has been a key figure in Zambian politics for over 20 years. He served as Vice President under President Levy Mwanawasa from 2003 to 2004, and later led the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy.

Political analysts say his exit marks the end of an era for one of Zambia’s most vocal political figures. Others have called on him to reconsider, saying his experience is still needed in public service.

Government is yet to comment on Dr. Mumba’s resignation.
