This wasn't just any interview...

It was one filled with purpose and intention.

Following his recent three-dimensional launch, I had the honour of interviewing acclaimed entrepreneur, broadcaster, and cultural innovator DJ Sbu (Sibusiso Leope WeNkosi).

In our conversation, DJ Sbu opens up about his exciting partnership with VW Barons Woodmead, his highly anticipated new music, and his latest book, Brick By Brick: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Property Wealth.

He also shares a personal story, which he explores further in his upcoming book, Born for Purpose: Becoming a King, releasing on 27 February 2026 (save the date!), along with valuable insights and tips for aspiring entrepreneurs.

This was more than just an interview, it was a career highlight. I left feeling inspired by his journey and the vision behind this incredible launch. It is a moment I will cherish forever.

Some news I have been so excited to share with you…

Acclaimed entrepreneur, broadcaster, and cultural innovator DJ Sbu (Sibusiso Leope WeNkosi) has announced a landmark three-dimensional business launch that positions him at the forefront of South Africa's economic transformation agenda.

The initiative, unveiled in partnership VW Barons Woodmead, represents a sophisticated convergence of creative industry leadership, financial literacy education, and purpose-driven entrepreneurship.

The comprehensive launch encompasses DJ Sbu's highly anticipated musical comeback under his Powernomics Africa multimedia label, the release of his authoritative property development guide "Brick By Brick: The Entrepreneur's Guide to Property Wealth," and an exclusive limited-edition automotive collaboration featuring three co-branded Volkswagen models with integrated educational philanthropy.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
DJ Sbu's return to the music industry after more than a decade marks a calculated strategic move that leverages his established track record as founder of TS Records, one of South Africa's most influential independent music labels. His new album represents a mature artistic evolution while maintaining his commitment to authentic African storytelling with global commercial appeal.

The simultaneous launch of "Brick By Brick" positions DJ Sbu as a thought leader in democratising property investment knowledge. Drawing from five years of hands-on experience through Ekasi Noble Property Development, the publication addresses critical barriers to homeownership faced by economically marginalised South Africans, including those with compromised credit histories.

𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭
The VW partnership introduces three limited-edition vehicles – the Polo Vivo MoFaya, Amarok, and Golf 8.5 Limited Editions – designed to inspire aspirational mobility within South African youth markets. Significantly, the collaboration incorporates a philanthropic component directing proceeds toward tertiary education registration fees for the 2026 academic year.

𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
Industry analysts recognise DJ Sbu's approach as representative of evolved African entrepreneurship that balances commercial viability with social responsibility. His integrated business model demonstrates how cultural influence can translate into sustainable economic impact while addressing systemic inequality.

The launch reinforces South Africa's position as a hub for innovative African entrepreneurship that resonates globally while maintaining authentic local relevance. DJ Sbu's commitment to education, property empowerment, and youth development aligns with national economic transformation objectives while creating scalable business models.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, which part of this three-dimensional launch excites you most?

The Nutcracker at Montecasino extends to 28 December!

The Nutcracker has provided wonderfully imaginative, sweet holiday entertainment for over a century, often being the first show young audiences experience when introduced to ballet and theatre. The new production presented by Global Star Events in collaboration with Cape Ballet Africa shows that none of that appeal has diminished, with its Teatro, Montecasino run already having been extended to accommodate overwhelming demand for tickets.

Now ending on Sunday 28 December, the run incorporates special festive season early show times on the final eight performances, on sale now at Webtickets.co.za. There are two shows on Tuesday, 23 December; Saturday, 27 December and Sunday, 28 December at 11am and 3:30pm with 3pm matinee shows on Wednesday, 24 December and Friday, 26 December.

Cape Ballet Africa’s take on this magical holiday classic features South Africa’s top classical ballet talent alongside acclaimed international guest artists. Arthur Wille, from Brazil, dances for the London City Ballet and has danced major roles in Giselle, Raymonda, Don Quixote and Le Corsaire. Ukranian Denis Cherevychko danced for over a decade with the Vienna State Ballet, working with the Paris Opera Ballet, Hungarian National Ballet and Teatro San Carlo as a guest artist. He has performed lead roles in Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Giselle, The Nutcracker and more. This production marks both dancers’ African debut.

Tchaikovsky’s much-loved score, including “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Waltz of the Flowers” supports a magical, enchanting spectacle as young girl Clara (played by a number of wonderfully talented young dancer from across South Africa during the run) receives an intriguing Christmas gift and goes on an enchanting journey through mesmerising dream landscapes.

Choreography and stage direction by internationally renowned Maina Gielgud, beautiful costumes designed by Marcel Meyer and gorgeous sets by Michael Mitchell are some of the other captivating contributions to Cape Ballet Africa’s The Nutcracker, which is set to thrill Johannesburg audiences with its beauty and the breathtaking precision of its 50-strong company and esteemed guests.

The storyteller behind Diary of a Whimsical Girl

This is the title of an incredible article that I was recently interviewed for. In this piece, I share how I turned my passion for storytelling into purpose through Diary of a Whimsical Girl, Phoenix Media, and Simply Becoming.

Thank you to JoziStyle for this wonderful feature and for giving me the space to share my story. It was not only about telling my story, but also a moment of reflection on the experiences that have shaped my path and a reminder of how writers and storytellers can touch lives in ways they may not even realise.

I’m excited to share my story with you:

From Everest to Constitution Hill…

The Impilo Collection Foundation is proud to launch the EmpowerHer: 8 849 Bras for Humanity National Exhibition at Constitution Hill, transforming one woman’s mountain climb into a movement for dignity, equality and change.

South Africa continues to face one of the highest rates of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the world. According to the South African Medical Research Council, one in three women will experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime and an estimated 2 700 women lose their lives to GBV every year.

Against this reality, the Impilo Collection Foundation seeks to turn despair into action. Through empathy, education and solidarity, the organisation is building a collective movement that calls every South African to rise together.

Earlier this year, Angela Yeung, founder of the Impilo Collection Foundation, became one of the few South African women to summit Mount Everest not for glory but for social change.

On that mountain, she carried a single bra to the summit, a simple yet profound act inspired by a young girl who once asked her, “Please bring me a bra next time.” That request revealed a deep and hidden vulnerability: in many under-resourced communities, bras are a luxury, not a given. For women and girls who have survived violence, the absence of such a basic garment is another layer of indignity.

Angela’s climb became a climb for South Africa, each of Everest’s 8 849 metres representing a story, a life and a stand against violence. What began as a symbolic gesture has grown into a national art installation of courage, featuring 8 849 bras — one for every metre of the world’s highest peak.

The exhibition’s venue, Constitution Hill, was chosen for its profound symbolism. Once a site of oppression, it now stands as a living testament to South Africa’s democracy, justice and human rights. At the heart of this project lies Section 12(1)(c) of the South African Constitution:

“Everyone has the right to be free from all forms of violence from either public or private sources.”

The EmpowerHer Exhibition brings this constitutional promise to life using art, activism and community storytelling to transform public spaces into platforms of healing and accountability.

Visitors to the exhibition will experience:
⭐ The Mountain of Bras: a monumental sculpture symbolising unity, resilience, and collective strength.
⭐ A Panel Discussion: exploring the themes of dignity, gender, and healing through art and activism on the 26th Nov 2025 from 10:00 to 12:00pm
⭐ Interactive Pledge Walls: where visitors can publicly commit to ending GBV.

Following its Johannesburg debut, the exhibition is set to travel to all nine provinces in 2026 under the theme “Carriers of Courage.”

The Impilo Collection Foundation is actively engaging corporate sponsors and logistics partners to help make this national journey possible, ensuring that each provincial leg culminates in the distribution of bras and dignity packs to women and girls in need.

“When I stood on the summit of Everest, I promised that every metre climbed would represent a voice for change. This exhibition is that promise fulfilled a reminder that healing begins when we stand together,” says Angela Yeung.

The Impilo Collection Foundation invites South Africans, individuals, corporates and communities to be part of this national act of unity.

How to Support:
🔹Donate towards the washing, packaging, and labelling of the bras (project cost: approx. R100,000).
🔹Partner to support logistics, transport, accommodation, and meals for the exhibition’s national roadshow team.
🔹Collaborate as a corporate or community partner to extend the reach and impact of the EmpowerHer initiative.
Every contribution becomes part of the Mountain of Hope, helping restore dignity, spark dialogue and advance a future where safety and respect are non-negotiable.

What does panto mean to you?

This was the question asked by Janice Honeyman at the first rehearsal. This year marks her 38th pantomime, and it promises to be a truly special one. Pinocchio: A No Strings Attached Pantomime will take place at the Joburg Theatre from 29 October to 24 December.

There was so much excitement and laughter as the cast got to know one another and began preparing for what promises to be a magical panto journey. It already felt like family, and as Janice Honeyman shared, “Panto is a family show, one that brings families together.”

As we move closer to the festive season, get ready to experience Pinocchio as you’ve never seen him before and discover the lessons he learns along the way. It’s going to be a wonderful show for the whole family to enjoy.

What’s your favourite part of panto?
