Dangote Resumes Sale Of Petrol In Naira

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed sale of premium motor spirit (PMS) in Naira less than 24 hours after suspending the sale.

The reversal of the earlier decision followed the intervention of the Chairman of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee, Dr. Zacch Adedeji who is the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The naira for crude arrangement was instituted by the federal government through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to provide crude oil for domestic refineries.

On Friday, Dangote refinery in a notice to customers said it would halt sale of products in naira with effect from Sunday, September 28, 2025.

It explained that the facility had been selling petroleum products beyond its approved naira crude allocation and could no longer sustain the arrangement.

However less than 24 hours after the refinery issued a counter notice to its customers, saying the products’ sale in naira would continue.

Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, has accused President Bola Tinubu of committing political su***de by alienating the North.

Naija News reports that Yusuf, in an interview with Punch, said North gave Tinubu 62 per cent of his votes, but he has been alienating the Northern region in key political appointments.

According to Yusuf, over 70 per cent of Tinubu’s appointments are from the South-West and questioned their contribution to the President’s victory in the 2023 election.

Yusuf added that Northerners have no reason to vote for Tinubu again.

He said, “He is from Lagos; he ruled there, and he is still ruling them. Nobody becomes governor of Lagos until they get his stamp of approval. This doesn’t happen in any part of this country, yet he lost Lagos. So, you guys knew something that we did not know.

“The North gave him 62 per cent of his votes, predominantly from the North-West. The South-West did not vote for him. It’s the North that brought President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to government. But what has he been doing? He’s been alienating the North.

“Over 70 per cent of his appointments are from the South-West. His kinsmen are from Lagos. What have they done to deserve that electorally? So, it’s political su***de for any politician to alienate his electoral base and expect us to vote for him again. He should come and tell us why he’s taken everything to the South-West, to Lagos.

“We (North) have no reason to vote for him again. We voted for him when his people did not. Katsina, where I come from, gave him more votes than his state of Lagos. So, his people did not vote for him. We sheltered him politically, and now he alienates us and wants to come back again.

“It’s political su***de that he’s committing, and he’s doing that knowingly because he doesn’t know politics.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s politics is South-West-based. He doesn’t know Nigerian politics at all, and that’s why he’s committing this political blunder all over the place.”

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has strongly condemned

PENGASSAN’s recent directive, describing it as lawless, reckless, and a threat to Nigeria’s energy security.

The refinery insists that no law empowers the union to cut off crude oil and gas supplies and warns that such actions amount to economic sabotage against the nation.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has instructed its members to stop providing gas to Dangote Petroleum Refinery immediately, and all crude oil supply valves to the refinery should be shut.

If this directive holds, Nigerians should prepare for scarcity and higher prices. Stopping crude supply to Dangote Refinery won’t just affect Dangote, it will affect everyone depending on that refinery to reduce fuel imports.

Power games in the oil sector always end up punishing the masses.
