Sometimes the people who help others shine have the most powerful stories of their own.

What does it take to build something where laughter is the product — but resilience, sacrifice and people are the real business?

In this episode of Interview with H, I sit down with Kate Goliath, the woman behind Goliath & Goliath, for a conversation that goes far beyond comedy and the entertainment industry.

Because behind the businesswoman, leader, wife and mother is a woman with a story of her own.

We go back to where it all began — the people who shaped her, the choices that changed the direction of her life, the risks behind building something of significance and the lessons that came from both success and failure.

But we also go where titles don’t.

We speak about family and parenthood, the seasons that test us, what keeps us grounded when life becomes difficult, and who we are when we strip away the roles everyone else knows us for.

We ask what failure teaches that success sometimes can’t.

Sometimes control doesn’t sound like control.
Sometimes it sounds like, “I’m only saying this because I care.”

But where does care end and control begin?

There’s a fine line between advising someone because you genuinely want the best for them and expecting them to make the choice you believe is best.

Advice gives someone something to consider.
Control struggles to accept when they choose differently.

Perhaps the real test is this:

Can you give someone your advice, explain your concerns, and still respect their right to choose differently?

Because caring about someone doesn’t always mean knowing what’s best for them.

Your habits don’t only shape your life. They shape the people around you.

It’s easy to become comfortable with the bare minimum — to fall into routines that keep us existing, but not necessarily growing.

But stagnation has a ripple effect.

How we take care of ourselves, how disciplined we are, how we move, how we show up in our relationships and how we pursue growth all influence the people closest to us.

Your children are watching.
Your spouse experiences it.
Your family feels it.

And perhaps one of the most powerful points from this conversation:

You cannot demand from others what you are unwilling to model yourself.

Want stronger relationships? Become more intentional.
Want active, driven children? Let them see you moving.
Want your spouse to keep growing? Keep growing too.

Movement is more than exercise. Sometimes movement is simply refusing to become stagnant in your own life.

Lead by example. Growth is contagious.

Some speeches end when the microphone is put down. Others follow you home.

I left the Muslimah Today event with ten pages of notes from listening to Ebrahim Rasool and Rosieda Shabodien — but what stayed with me wasn’t simply what was written on those pages.

It was what their words made me question within myself.

What do we really stand for when standing comes at a cost?
Have we mistaken silence for patience — or recklessness for courage?
How much of who we are has been defined by everyone except ourselves?
Where have we surrendered our confidence and agency?
When did we stop dreaming?
And what are we doing with the one life we have?

Their words inspired this reflection on conviction, courage, patience, dignity, identity, confidence, agency, responsibility, purpose and legacy.

Perhaps we don’t need more motivation telling us what we could become.

Perhaps we need the courage to use what is already within us.

To speak when it matters.
To break what shouldn’t be passed on.
To reclaim the parts of ourselves we’ve made smaller.
To stop waiting for permission.
To take initiative.
To become light where we have been placed.

Deep gratitude to Ebrahim Rasool and Rosieda Shabodien for sharing wisdom that didn’t simply inspire in the moment, but challenged me to think differently — and to Muslimah Today for creating the space for conversations worth carrying forward.

Because maybe the question isn’t:

“Will people remember me?”

Maybe it is:

“Will anything be different because I was here?” 🤍

Save this one. Sit with the questions. And pass it on to someone who needs the reminder.

At Muslimah Today, Nasira shared a beautiful reminder for women everywhere:

Stay true to yourself.
Know your worth.
Value yourself.
Cherish the people around you.
Stay empowered — but always remain humble.

And never become so focused on your own journey that you forget the community around you.

Because our strength isn’t only in what we achieve individually — it’s in how we support, uplift and make space for one another.
