President Cyril Ramaphosa has formally received the interim findings of a high-stakes inquiry into corruption and political meddling within South Africa's criminal justice system.
The Madlanga Commission, headed by retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, handed over the document on Wednesday. The inquiry was established in July 2025 following a series of scandals that critics say have compromised the country's police and prosecuting authorities.
In a statement, presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed that the President is now reviewing the initial findings.
"President Ramaphosa will study the interim report while the Commission, which is in recess, prepares to hear further testimony from new witnesses or persons who have previously testified,” Magwenya said.
The Commission’s mandate is broad, covering not only financial corruption but also the "political interference" that has long been a flashpoint in South African politics.
