🐣 Our little homemade incubator experiment!

After making our own incubator, we were honestly excited and nervous to see if it would actually work. 😅 We decided to test it with just 5 fertile eggs—nothing too big, just a small experiment to see what would happen.
Waiting for those eggs to hatch was an experience on its own! Checking the temperature, turning the eggs, wondering if we were doing everything right… and then finally, 3 little chicks hatched!
Out of 5 eggs, getting 3 chicks might not sound like a perfect hatch rate, but for us, it was a big achievement because this was something we made ourselves. Seeing those tiny chicks come out of an incubator we built with our own hands was honestly amazing.
It reminded me that you don't always need expensive equipment to start. Sometimes you have to try, learn from your mistakes, improve, and try again.
Those 2 eggs that didn't hatch also taught us something. Every loss is a lesson, especially in farming. Next time, we know we can make adjustments and hopefully get an even better result.

💧 Never underestimate the power of clean water! Healthy chickens need fresh, clean water every single day.
I usually change their water 4 times a day to keep it fresh and clean. How often do you change yours?

One thing poultry farming has taught us is the importance of having a trustworthy supplier. We once bought point of lay chickens and after some time they got sick. Since then, we always ask questions and request records, especially vaccination records. Know what you are buying before you pay.

One thing farming has taught us is that you learn from your mistakes. ❤️
When we first started, our chickens didn’t have proper housing, and we kept wondering why chickens were disappearing every day. We eventually checked the chicken house properly and discovered an open space where they were escaping from. 😭😂
That’s when we realised how important secure housing is in poultry farming. It’s not just about having chickens, feed and water. You need to make sure they are safe, protected and unable to escape.
We may not have started perfectly, but every mistake has taught us something and made us better farmers.

We really wanted an incubator, but at the time we simply couldn’t afford one. Instead of giving up, we decided to make one ourselves… and guess what? It worked SUPER well! 🐣🐥
As poultry farmers, we’ve learned that you don’t always have to wait until you have money to buy everything you need. Sometimes you just have to be creative, use what you have, and try. 💪🏽
Don’t let lack of money stop you from starting. Learn, create, improvise and keep going. You might surprise yourself!

Cleaning eggs, especially during rainy seasons
Rainy days can be a real struggle for us poultry farmers because the eggs often come out of the nest with more dirt and mud than usual.
We try not to scrub eggs aggressively because they have a natural protective coating. For lightly dirty eggs, we gently wipe them with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel. If an egg really needs washing, we use clean water that is warmer than the egg, wash gently, and dry it immediately.
No soaking, no harsh scrubbing and definitely no rough handling.

A hen and a rooster may both be chickens, but they have different roles.
The hen is the female and she’s the one laying those beautiful eggs we collect every day. 🥚 The rooster is the male, and his job is to breed with the hens so the eggs can be fertile for hatching.
Simple knowledge, but very important when you’re starting out in poultry farming.
