RIP Maestro Serra

The ASC remembers Eduardo Serra, ASC, AFC (1943–2025), whose work on Girl with a Pearl Earring, Unbreakable, and the final two Harry Potter films exemplified his painterly eye and versatility across genres.

An Academy Award nominee for Girl with a Pearl Earring and The Wings of the Dove and recipient of the 2014 ASC International Award, Serra’s career spanned literary adaptations, contemporary dramas, and large-scale fantasies. Born in Lisbon, he built an international legacy that balanced naturalistic storytelling with a luminous, painterly style.
