⚡ “77-YEAR-OLD POWER CABLE IS UNRELIABLE!” - KRIEK
Kempton Park councillor Jean Kriek has said the 66KV oil-filled cable, which supplies electricity to large parts of Kempton Park, is unreliable. He said the network, which frequently causes power outages in Kempton Park, should urgently be replaced by a modern power grid. The outdated network recently caused a power outage in Birchleigh, which lasted 52 hours.

Delivery drivers are being arrested for being in South Africa illegally, with no passports, no permits to work here legally, and no documentation authorising commercial operations. Others had no valid driver’s licences or licence discs, authorities say the crackdown is aimed squarely at stopping undocumented, unlicensed, and unlawfully operating riders from turning the delivery industry into a free-for-all. Companies and delivery platforms are urged to ensure every rider on their apps is legal, licensed, and actually allowed to work in South Africa.

After months of relentless pressure (and more follow-ups than a telemarketer on commission), the VF Plus in Kempton Park has finally succeeded in getting the traffic lights at the corner of Olienhout Avenue and Elgin Road back on! What the city couldn’t fix for ages, a bit of political persistence — and maybe a few sternly worded emails — did the trick. 💡 UPDATE: The current outage affecting the entire 66kV network in Kempton Park stems from maintenance work on the Eskom transmission side. During the process, the feeder intended to carry the temporary load could not handle the actual demand, leading to a system trip. Eskom is now in the process of restoring both lines to stabilise supply and bring power back online as soon as possible. Energy should be back in a few minutes.
