Qandu-qandu its name. The informal settlement, which is officially Phase 4 of Green Point, Khayelitsha, was established in April 2018.

Khayelitsha residents demonstrated outside the Civic Centre and demanded that the City of Cape Town provide basic services in their areas.
Qandu-Qandu community leader Zukiswa Nonkwali said shack dwellers battle to get water in the informal settlement as about 5,000 families share four water taps.
The shortage of taps prevents the shacks dwellers from putting out fires, she said and the lack of roads prevents emergency services from entering Qandu-Qandu.
“When residents are sick or injured, we must take them to an ambulance on Spine Road because ambulances can’t enter our area,” she said. “Shacks burn completely because firefighters can’t go into our areas and douse fires.” Forensic officers have also struggled to enter the area and collect dead bodies.

City of Cape Town community liaison officer, Xolani Joja tried to collect the memorandum He told the commuty that moyor is over seas while he knew that the dwellers are coming, but the shack dwellers refused to hand it to anyone other than Cape Town mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis.They were shocked that the were no Political prties involven .

This is a mission, street vission for us to Over stand life from home to the street. Like at home there was no food. Though mom and dad was no fool but wonderful. We went to the street having nothing. We came back home having something to say from the street. Songs and poems and dances and stuff for us to make bread, for mom and dad. The government did not understand. We went to school for sharp tools, for sharpening our dreams. The government trained us for career jobs not for succeeding our dreams. Today nothing is ok at all. As we are now talking, half of us are prisoners, some of us work job careers, and some of us are still struggling for satisfaction, in succeeding their dreams, which are oppressed by the white government. Nothing belong to us.
