Jack Pearadin, a longtime gem hunter, made an extraordinary discovery at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, one of the very few places in the world where the public can search for diamonds and legally keep what they find. He had been visiting the park since 2013 when he uncovered the striking yellow stone while washing gravel from a five-gallon bucket.

The diamond, named “American Dream,” is roughly the size of a fingernail and is the largest diamond reported at the park in 2026 so far. Pearadin believes it could potentially be worth around $1 million, although professional estimates have reportedly placed its value closer to $250,000, depending on its quality and market value.

And the craziest part? He only paid $15 for the opportunity to search. Visitors can fill a five-gallon bucket with gravel, search through it, and keep any diamonds or other gemstones they discover. More than 37,000 diamonds have been found at the park since it became a state park in 1972.

The site has an even more incredible history: the 40.23-carat “Uncle Sam” diamond, the largest diamond ever discovered in the United States, was found there in 1924.

Sometimes, the difference between a $15 day in the dirt and a life-changing discovery really is just one lucky scoop. 🤯💎

De B**rs, one of the largest diamond companies in the world, is returning to operate in Israel after an absence of nine years.

From tomorrow (Tuesday) until Thursday the company’s diamonds will be displayed to buyers at the Diamond Exchange in Ramat Gan.

The renewal of De B**rs’ auctions on the Israeli exchange is happening just a few days after the Diamond Exchange and the Israel Tax Authority signed an agreement covering the diamonds industry for 2027-2028 that imposes on diamantaires a fixed rate of tax as a percentage of turnover.

The agreement puts Israel in a competitive position vis-à-vis leading diamond trading centers that have introduced similar models of taxation based on turnover.

In Belgium the rate of tax is three times higher than in Israel. Precious stones and jewelry enter Israel duty free, which compares with a 5% duty in Dubai, while registration of a foreign company in Israel is quick and open to any foreign resident, whereas in Dubai the process can take over a year.

The agreement with the Tax Authority and the return of De B**rs are products of efforts by the management of the Diamond Exchange, headed by its president Nissim Zuaretz, to revive the industry, one of Israel’s oldest, with the assistance of people such as Roey Fisher, head of the Foreign Trade Administration at the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

In general, the international diamond industry faces considerable challenges, including from lab-produced diamonds. In the case of De B**rs, the average price of raw diamonds in the first half of 2026 was $105 per carat, 32% lower than in the first half of 2025.

De B**rs is owned by London-based global mining company Anglo American (85%) and the government of Botswana.

💎 The Diamond That Traveled by Mail

In 1905, an extraordinary diamond was discovered at the Premier Mine in South Africa. It was named the Cullinan Diamond after mine owner Sir Thomas Cullinan.

The rough stone weighed an astonishing 3,106 carats, making it the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found.

Its enormous size and value created an unusual problem: How could such a precious stone be transported safely to England?

The solution was almost unbelievable.

A heavily guarded ship was sent on a journey carrying what appeared to be the precious diamond. Detectives accompanied the shipment, creating the impression that the famous stone was aboard.

But there was a catch…

💡 The diamond on the ship was a decoy.

The real Cullinan Diamond was placed in a plain box and sent to England by registered post. The elaborate ship journey was designed to attract attention away from the real stone.

The diamond eventually became a gift to King Edward VII, who received it in 1907. The following year, it was taken to Amsterdam, where master diamond cutter Joseph Asscher began the incredibly difficult task of cutting it.

The enormous rough diamond was eventually transformed into nine major stones and numerous smaller ones. The two largest, Cullinan I and Cullinan II, became part of the British Crown Jewels.

So one of history's most famous diamonds wasn't actually traveling under heavy guard when it made its real journey.

It was simply put in a box and sent through the mail. 📦💎

Sometimes the safest hiding place is the one nobody expects. ✨
