Northern Cape Heat designed by Cezanne Henney.

My Northern Cape Heat Logo was inspired by the iconic Northern Cape climate, i.e. Heat. The colour scheme is warm and vibrant. The flaming ball is indicative of high level bowling and batting. The flame graphic and colour also represent aggression, when batting and bowling and is an archetype of "re-igniting" the culture of cricket. I've also embedded the Northern Cape Province shape in the 'R' to further represent Revival.

UPDATE WITH REGARDS TO DEMANDS BY NORTHERN CAPE ARTISTS WHO ARE PROTESTING AND OCCUPYING THE OFFICE OF THE MEC FOR SPORT , ARTS AND CULTURE
_________________________________________________________________________

The Department of Sport , Arts and Culture and representatives from the Artists have resolved the current matter regarding the demands that R 4 million be made available for the operationalization of the Northern Cape Theatre, development of a craft hub and the development of a music hub.

We can indicate that after a rigorous process of reprioritization, restructuring of programs funded by the Northern Cape Arts and Culture Council , the Department of Sport , Arts and Culture have manage to acquire the R 4 million required for the implementation for the operationalisation of the Northern Cape Theatre , the development of the craft Hub as well as the development of the music hub.

The process for attainment of the funds started with the continuous planning and working sessions with the Artists. The process also included a meeting with the Premier of the Northern Cape Dr Zamani Saul , a meeting with Northern Cape Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Sport , Arts and Culture led by the Chairperson Mr Dichaba and with concerned artists in Kimberley , Upington and De Aar

On the, 06 April 2021 , the Department met with the Provincial Task Team of the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) in order to finalise the current matter regarding the occupation of the Office of the MEC in Kimberley and the District Offices in De Aar and Upington.

Service Level Agreement

The Service Level Agreement came about after discussions between the NCACC, The Forum and CCIFSA with the assistance of the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in consultation with the Member of the Executive Council responsible for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

The funds are now available and we have finalised the Service Level Agreement which was entered between the Northern Cape Arts and Culture Council the Northern Cape Practitioners Forum.

Key elements of the Service Level Agreement that the funds allocated are primarily for the:

1. Operationalisation of the Northern Cape Theatre

2. Development of a Music Hub

3. Development of a Arts and Craft Hub

The Northern Cape Practitioners Forum will ensure that quarterly reports are submitted to the Northern Cape Arts and Culture Council on the progress of the projects. All financial implications and assets will be managed by the NCACC and that it is line with the financial policies and regulations that guides government when incurring expenses.

The above-mentioned projects will be implemented over a period 12 months as per the service level agreement which shall continue for twelve (12) months from commencement. This SLA will commence on 01 April 2021 and end on 31 March 2022.

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture need to categorically state that at no stage have we not taken the demands of the artists seriously, as we know and understand that the cultural industry was one of the hardest hit by the COVID 19 pandemic .

We will do whatever we can to ensure that we try and normalise the situation with the limited resources we have available. As a department it is one of our core functions and mandate to serve the Artists of the Northern Cape.

SPECIAL INVESTIGATING UNIT LAUNCH IN THE NORTHERN CAPE

The Special Investigating(SIU) has officially opened office in Kimberley today. The new offices, situated on the corner of Du Toitspan and Chapel Street, were unveiled this morning followed by an opening ceremony at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre.

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola said that the SIU is meant to assist in investigating maladministration, corruption and the general misconduct within government.

The Northern Cape was the only province without a Special Investigating Unit. The province was previously serviced by surrounding provinces including Free State, North West and Western Cape. In response to this, Lamola says "We had to start somewhere." Unfortunately the Northern Cape was the last province to receive an SIU office.

We hope that SIU makes a difference and impact in the province and restore the lost hope of citizens.

ARTISTS PROTEST AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS, ARTS AND CULTURE

ARTISTS FIGHT FOR WHAT THEY DESERVE DURING PROTEST AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS, ARTS AND CULTURE

Disgruntled artists in Kimberley have started protesting and have resorted to occupying the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture Offices in Newpark, Kimberley. They are also demanding answers on what happened to the 4 Million Rand which was allocated to the arts by the Premier in the State of the Province Address in 2020.

The artists have pleaded with the Department and the Northern Cape Government to make good on the promises made in the State of the Province Address in 2020 to start with the operationalization of the Northern Cape Theatre as well as to create a music and craft hub at the Mayibuye Centre.

The protesters said that they had been engaging with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture since Monday 14 March 2021 and refuse to leave the premises and will continue with their Hunger Strike until their demands have been met.

A number of placards have been placed in and around the premises with garbage bins tipped over in front and the gate set alight.

The plight of artist in Kimberley is one that needs to urgently be addressed.

THE KIMBERLEY BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL CHANGING OF THE FLAG CEREMONY

The removal of the flag in this school marks a historic moment not only in Kimberley but in South Africa as a whole. It challenges the political structure of schools across the province.

Kimberley Boys' High School has had a long-standing challenge with the Apartheid flag still flying alongside the school's flag.

The newly appointed headmaster of the school, Xolile Taba made transformation a natural part of the school's vision. His progressive vision for the school is one of hope and excellence and returning the school to its former glory.

The auspicious ceremony, intended to encourage change and transformation in the school and its pupils, represents a new dawn. The removal of the flag also represents an inclusive culture in society - one which reflects the demographic of the school.
