Four traffic cops arrested for this murder
NEWS ◾ Four traffic cops were arrested this afternoon for the shooting and killing of a Nigerian man in the early hours of this morning. The traffic officers, aged between 25 and 36 years old, are apparently members of the national traffic department (RTM road traffic management).
Col Adele Myburgh confirmed that the deceased was identified as the 37-year-old Osinakachukwu Macus Onu, a Nigerian national who is reportedly legally in the country. He was shot and killed at approximately 03:00 on Wednesday, December 17, on the N12 in Klerksdorp.
It is alleged that he was chased by four traffic police officers while conducting operations. In the pursuit, the deceased was allegedly shot, and his vehicle was later found in the middle of the road on the opposite side of the N12. His body was found in the middle of the road.
Police were notified of the incident and swiftly responded. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the traffic officials involved had already left the scene. Information received and preliminary investigations by detectives led the team to a place in Klerksdorp, where the suspects’ official fi****ms were seized for forensic ballistic analysis.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday December 18 on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
Major General (Dr) Naidoo commended the Klerksdorp Detectives police for their swift and effective response. Additionally, he thanked those who assisted the police with information that led to the arrest to ensure that justice is served. He urged members of the community to continue to work with the police in resolving crime.
