๐Ÿšจ FOUR SUSPECTS NAMED AFTER VIRAL FIREARM VIDEO SPARKS OUTRAGE ๐Ÿšจ

South African Police have officially revealed the identities and photographs of four suspects arrested in connection with a viral social media video showing individuals allegedly handling unlicensed fi****ms recklessly inside a home.

The suspects have been identified as:

โ–ช๏ธ Thandanani Shaun Khumalo (34)
โ–ช๏ธ Xolisa Siboto (22)
โ–ช๏ธ Lebogang Maji (23)
โ–ช๏ธ Hosiame Chaane (22)

The video, which quickly spread across social media platforms, showed people casually cocking and pointing what appeared to be real fi****ms triggering widespread public concern and prompting a rapid police investigation in the Tembisa, Midrand, and Ebony Park areas of Gauteng.

According to SAPS, two male suspects were initially arrested in Tembisa after police discovered unlicensed fi****ms as well as a hijacked vehicle in their possession. The two female suspects were later tracked down and arrested in the Kaalfontein area.

All four suspects now face charges linked to the illegal possession, handling, and misuse of fi****ms under the Fi****ms Control Act.

Police say the public release of the suspectsโ€™ names and photographs sends a strong warning against reckless social media behaviour involving dangerous weapons.

The accused remain in custody at Tembisa South SAPS and are expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrateโ€™s Court soon.

Investigations are continuing.

Matjhabeng Municipality Executive Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipha says significant progress is being made in investigations into corruption and fraud within the municipality, with several cases already reported to the Hawks for further investigation.

Municipal leadership has appealed to law enforcement authorities to fast-track investigations and hand over completed cases to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) so that individuals implicated in corruption can face prosecution.

One of the shocking discoveries involves allegations of โ€œghost workersโ€ within the municipalityโ€™s payroll system. According to municipal officials, a forensic investigation revealed that a former employee who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2025 allegedly continued receiving a salary from the municipality until last month despite being incarcerated.

It is also alleged that some municipal officials were involved in fraudulent activities by signing on behalf of imprisoned individuals to ensure salaries continued being paid. Another case reportedly involves an individual imprisoned in Kroonstad whose details allegedly remained active on the municipal payroll system.

The municipality says these findings confirmed the need for a full forensic investigation into the payroll system, with investigators instructed to complete the report by the end of June.

Officials further revealed that new allegations have emerged involving municipal workers accused of taking bribes from residents while performing duties they are already paid to do. These cases have reportedly been opened and are currently under investigation.

Municipal leadership says the fight against corruption remains a top priority and has vowed to clean up the municipality and restore accountability.

โ€œWe want a clean government in this municipality, and we have no doubt that we will succeed in fighting corruption,โ€ leadership stated.

Matjhabeng Municipality Executive Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipha says financial challenges continue to affect service delivery and the implementation of its financial recovery plan, as the municipality has not yet managed to reach its targeted 75% collection rate.

Municipal leadership is now urging residents across Matjhabeng to play their part by paying for essential services such as electricity and water. According to the municipality, improving payment levels is critical in helping council recover financially and continue delivering services to communities.

Residents who are unemployed and unable to afford municipal services are encouraged to register as indigent beneficiaries through their ward councillors. This process allows qualifying households to receive support and assistance from the municipality.

The municipality also announced that stricter credit control measures will soon be implemented against residents who continuously fail to pay for services. This includes the disconnection of water and electricity services for non-paying consumers as part of enforcing the municipalityโ€™s credit control policy.

Officials have reassured residents who are paying their municipal accounts that they should not panic, as the focus will specifically be on defaulters who have not been meeting their obligations.

The municipality further appealed to the community to understand that service delivery depends heavily on residents contributing towards municipal revenue.

โ€œAs communities demand better service delivery, it is equally important that residents pay what is due to council,โ€ municipal leadership stated.

Council says it remains committed to implementing the financial recovery plan and ensuring accountability when it comes to the payment of municipal services.

๐Ÿ”ดMatjhabeng Municipality Intensifies Fight Against Corruption While Securing Billions in New Investments๐Ÿ”ด

Matjhabeng Municipality has announced a series of major developments aimed at fighting corruption, strengthening governance, improving service delivery, and attracting billions of rands in investment into the municipality.

Municipal leadership recently confirmed that a forensic investigation commissioned by council has already produced its first draft report, with officials describing the findings as a breakthrough in the municipalityโ€™s efforts to restore accountability and financial discipline.

According to leadership, the investigation has already helped uncover irregularities that could potentially save the municipality millions of rands. The final forensic report is expected to be officially presented during the upcoming ordinary council meeting at the end of the month, where members of the public and media will be invited to attend.

Among the most serious findings were allegations linked to corruption within the municipalityโ€™s payroll system. Officials revealed that one former employee, who was reportedly suspended and sentenced in 2025, allegedly continued receiving a municipal salary until recently. Another individual was reportedly still appearing on the system despite allegedly being in prison.

As a result, a second forensic investigation focused specifically on payroll irregularities is currently underway and is expected to be finalized by the end of June.

Municipal leadership further confirmed that several corruption related cases have now been handed over to law enforcement agencies, with some investigations expected to proceed to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for possible prosecution.

The municipality also warned of individuals allegedly attempting to destabilize municipal operations for political and financial gain. Leadership claimed that certain groups are attempting to create instability ahead of the 2026 elections in an effort to regain access to municipal resources and continue alleged corrupt activities.

Officials stressed that ordinary municipal workers should not be blamed for ongoing tensions, arguing that employees are allegedly being manipulated by individuals pursuing personal political interests.

Despite these challenges, Matjhabeng Municipality says it remains focused on improving governance and stabilizing municipal operations. Leadership confirmed that council plans to adopt a new organizational structure by the end of the month to address long-standing staffing issues and permanently fill several senior acting positions during the 2026/2027 financial year.

Key leadership positions, including Municipal Manager, Director of Infrastructure, and Director of Community Services, are expected to be formally filled as part of efforts to improve accountability and service delivery.

At the same time, the municipality highlighted significant progress in economic development, revealing that more than R40 billion worth of investments have been mobilized since 2022 โ€” a figure leadership described as unprecedented in the municipalityโ€™s democratic history.

Over R6.8 billion has already been allocated toward critical infrastructure projects, including upgrades to sewer treatment plants, pump stations, and aging water infrastructure.

Matjhabeng Municipality also announced plans to host an Investment Summit in July in partnership with provincial and national government stakeholders to attract further development opportunities.

One of the major projects expected to boost local economic activity is the proposed redevelopment of the destroyed Libery Centre Mall, where investors have reportedly committed around R250 million toward reconstruction. Construction could begin as early as September or October if agreements are finalized.

In another major development, investors are also reportedly preparing a R1.2 billion mixed use development near VISTA University, including student accommodation, retail facilities, and additional infrastructure aimed at creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.

The municipality also welcomed the involvement of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in probing allegations linked to land and human settlements matters as part of broader anti corruption efforts.

Municipal leadership concluded by thanking residents for their continued support and reaffirming their commitment to building a clean, transparent, and investment friendly municipality focused on improving the lives of the people of Matjhabeng.
