If you’ve been wondering why things have been a touch quieter on the Beer Troopy front lately, there’s a good reason. Behind the scenes, we’ve been packing boxes, shifting plans, and setting up a new base that feels right for the next chapter of this journey.

Old Garlandfield is more than just a cottage. It’s a place with history, heart, and a story that connects directly to the roots of the Beer Troopy adventure. In many ways, it brings everything full circle.

Royal Connections in Beer

Back in 1994, when I joined Bavaria Bräu, two names on the brewery’s letterhead stood out: Guido Georg Sandler and Luitpold Prinz von Bayern.Their stories stretch from the boardrooms of the Oetker Group to the royal brewing legacy of the House of Wittelsbach—home to Oktoberfest and the Reinheitsgebot.

Decades later, I had the privilege of meeting HRH Luitpold in person and recording a podcast with him in Cape Town. It was one of those full-circle moments in my beer journey.
