Old Woodridgean Association

Old Woodridgean Association Woodridge College & Preparatory School Alumni This appeal worked and the association reformed under a name change. The aim is to sell 500 tickets each year.

In 1958 several Woodridge Prep alumni held an inaugural general meeting to form the Woodridge Old Boys Association (WOBA) after attempting to contact the 300 or so past pupils. Their main objectives were to organise reunions and sports meetings, have old-boy representation on the Board of Trustees, assist pupils in need where necessary and for old boys to maintain friendships formed at the Prep. B

y 1963 the editor noted in the school magazine that ; β€œFor the past few year the Woodridge Old Boys Association has been, to all intents and purposes, non- existent.” and appealed to all old boys to support them. They became the Old Woodridgeans Association (OWA) which worked well especially once the school began accepting female students. To date the OWA’s major fundraising initiative has been the 500 Club which hold lucky draws 3 times a year and give prizes of R25 000, 00; R7 500, 00 at each draw, as well as attendance prizes and lucky draws.

Peter Cole

The paddling community in South Africa is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Western Cape stalwart Peter Cole on Thursday.

Paddlesport South Africa will remember Peter for his tireless work, both on and off the water, and the massive contribution he made to canoeing, both in the Western Cape and the rest of South Africa.

Peter was a top-level competitor, highly respected paddling coach and administrator, as well as a prominent member of the canoeing and surfski business community.

Colin Simpkins, the Paddlesport South Africa Secretary General, said: β€œVery few individuals have had a greater impact on our sport, in as many roles as Peter had. From coach, to race organiser, to discipline administrator, his passion, dedication and impact have been immeasurable. The make up of members in our national teams for this year bear testament to the success of his coaching efforts. He had strong opinions on a number of issues, and very rarely left one in doubt as to what he thought about you. The gap that his passing leaves is massive. It is always difficult to find adequate words to comfort family members and friends when facing a loss of this magnitude. Just know that you are in our thoughts. Taken from us way too soon. Goodbye my friend.”

A statement from the Western Cape Canoe Union, said: β€œPete’s enthusiasm and passion for our sport touched so many lives in our community. He will be remembered for his huge contribution to our sport in South Africa and beyond, and his absence leaves a void that will be felt by all. May we come together to honour Pete’s memory and support one another in love and unity.”

Our thoughts are with Alexa, Jarryd, Blake and family during this difficult time.
