N3 Update: ALL LANES ARE NOW open to traffic at the foot of Van Reenen Pass at N3-6X 42.0N. Road users are, however, warned to continue to expect slow moving traffic and congestion as the extensive backlog of traffic begins to clear. In the interest of safety, traffic in a northbound direction (towards Gauteng) will be released in batches from Tugela Plaza until mobility can be fully restored.
N3TC extends its gratitude to the road incident management teams for their dedicated service during this mammoth recovery and cleanup operation. “We also appreciate the patience and understanding of all our road users who have been inconvenienced as a result of this major crash,” says Thania Dhoogra, chief operating officer of N3TC.
“For your own safety, please do not now rush to your destinations. Wet and dangerous driving conditions continue to be experienced along most parts of the N3 Toll Route. Please take the utmost care on the roads as we head into the evening. Adopt a defensive driving style to suit the prevailing conditions. Increase following distances; keep headlights switched on; and remember to brake slowly, and rather sooner than suddenly. Now is not the time to take risks chances with your safety.”
