[News Update] RA**ST SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR BRUTAL ATTACK ON ELDERLY WOMAN IN MAPELA VILLAGE, MAHWELERENG.

The Mahwelereng Regional Court has sentenced Kabelo Prince Monethe(33) to life imprisonment for the r**e of a 68-year-old woman from Mapela Ga-Chaba in December 2023.

The horrific incident occurred in the early hours of 16 December 2023 at approximately 02:00, when the elderly victim was awakened by a loud bang at her kitchen door.

Upon investigating the noise, an unknown suspect grabbed her from behind, pushed her to the ground, and proceeded to r**e her.

After the assault, the perpetrator forced the victim to unlock the door for him.

As they approached the gate, the victim spotted her neighbor and screamed for help, causing the accused to flee.

The quick-thinking neighbor immediately alerted other community members and reported the incident.

Crucial evidence was left behind when the suspect abandoned his underwear at the scene, which community members identified as belonging to the accused.

This led to Monethe Prince's arrest on the same day, 16 December 2023.

The case faced initial delays due to identity disputes and was not immediately enrolled. However, DNA evidence conclusively linked the accused to the crime, leading to the case being reinstated and finalized on Thursday.

The investigation was expertly handled by Warrant Officer Chuene Selolo of the Mokopane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the swift action of the community and the thorough investigation.
"This life sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate violence against our vulnerable community members, particularly our elderly citizens. The excellent work by our FCS Unit and the cooperation of the community demonstrates that justice will prevail when we work together.", she said.

[News Update] LIMPOPO POLICE UNCOVER FAKE HIJACKING PLOT IN VEHICLE STRIPPING SYNDICATE.

In an unexpected turn of events, two men who initially posed as victims in separate hijacking cases have been arrested for allegedly faking the crimes and colluding to strip and sell their own vehicles.

This development follows the discovery of a dismantled luxury vehicle during a recent police operation in Nirvana, Polokwane.

On Wednesday, 09 July 2025, an intelligence-driven operation led by the Limpopo Tracking Team, in partnership with private sector, uncovered a black Porsche Cayenne that had been reported stolen in May 2025 under the Zebediela policing area.

The high-end vehicle was already stripped for parts at a workshop located along Nelson Mandela Drive in Nirvana.

Further search of the premises led to the recovery of a second vehicle, a Toyota Tazz, reported stolen in October 2024 in the Seshego policing area.

This raised suspicions and triggered a deeper investigation into the origins of the vehicles and the legitimacy of the reported cases.

Two suspects, Paballo Masokameng (37), the alleged mastermind behind the Porsche case, and Emmanuel Boshomane (37), owner of the Toyota Tazz, were subsequently arrested. Both initially reported their vehicles stolen under false pretenses.

Masokameng claimed he had been hijacked by three unknown men after offering them a lift.

However, investigations revealed that he had staged the hijacking, removed and sold parts of the Porsche, and transported the stripped vehicle to the workshop to be fully dismantled.

He was arrested and charged with fraud, perjury, and defeating the ends of justice.

He appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and is expected to appear again today, for a formal bail application.

In the second incident, Boshomane, a TVET College lecturer, was allegedly approached by Masokameng and persuaded to fake a hijacking involving his Toyota Tazz.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Boshomane’s home in Moletjie (Seshego policing area) and then taken to the same workshop.

The workshop owner allegedly decided to buy the car instead, changed its colour, and altered its registration number plates.

Boshomane was arrested and also charged with fraud, perjury, and defeating the ends of justice. He appeared in court on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, was granted R500 bail, and is expected back in court on 27 August 2025.

The workshop owner, Mustafar Hussain (49), a Tanzanian national, was arrested during the operation.

He has been charged with possession of stolen motor vehicles and appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to apply for bail today.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has issued a stern warning to individuals who deliberately mislead police and abuse legal processes:

“ We will uncover the truth, no matter how elaborate the scheme. Those involved in deceiving the police and attempting to benefit from insurance fraud will be arrested and prosecuted." Concluded the Provincial Commissioner.

[News Update] LUXURY VEHICLE FOUND CHOPPED AT WORKSHOP IN NIRVANA.

A black Porsche Cayenne, which was reported stolen, was discovered stripped and chopped into parts at a workshop at Nirvana in Polokwane during an intelligence-driven operation conducted on Wednesday .

This breakthrough led to the arrest of three suspects, including the workshop owner.

The operation was executed by the Limpopo Tracking Team in partnership with Tracker Connect, Tshimollo Security and Investigation and Limpopo Tracking Security following intelligence about suspicious activities at a workshop situated on Nelson Mandela Drive in Nirvana.

Upon arrival, the team found the high-end Porsche Cayenne already dismantled in the backyard of the workshop. Preliminary investigations confirmed the vehicle had been stolen in May 2025 in the Zebediela policing area.

Further search of the premises led to the recovery of a second vehicle — a white Toyota Tazz — which had been reported stolen in October 2024 in the Seshego policing area.

Three male suspects, aged between 35 and 49, were immediately apprehended. Among them is a 49-year-old foreign national who owns the workshop. He was found to be in the country illegally, and an additional charge for contravening the Immigration Act will be added.
