AFRIKA MAYIBUYE MOVEMENT COLLINS CHABANE WOMEN’S MOVEMENT HOLDS FIRST WOMEN’S MONTH MEETING

MALAMULELW: The Collins Chabane Sub-Region Women’s Movement of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement held its first Women’s Month meeting on Saturday, 22 August 2026 at Xitlhelani Community Hall, outside Malamulele.

The meeting that was led by Provincial Women’s League Leader Pastor Norah Angel and Provincial team member Anna Chauke and Sub-Regional raised a range number of issues affecting women. The issue of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBV), economic emancipation, social justice and access to basic services.

The issue of water was also raised as one of the major challenges facing many villages across the Vhembe District Municipality. The meeting highlighted how the continued lack of reliable water disproportionately affects women, who often carry the responsibility of caring for children, managing households and ensuring that their families have access to water.

For many women, the water crisis has become a daily burden, adding to the economic and social pressures already facing rural families.

The discussions also emphasised the need for stronger political organisation, meaningful economic opportunities, social justice and decisive action against GBV.

The meeting served as both a Women’s Month commemoration and a platform for women to engage on the realities confronting their communities and to strengthen their collective voice for the coming local government elections .

WATER SOLUTION BROUGHT TO THE PEOPLE OF MPHAKATI AND XIGALO VILLAGES AFTER A PROTEST STRIKE

MALAMULELE: The Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality Cllr Miyelani Chauke responded swiftly to the call of Mphakati residents.The water challenges at Mphakati led to a serious strike by the residents, who barricaded the roads with stones a trees during the week.

However, the call by the people saw the Executive Mayor visits the plant on which water are supplied from at Gandlanani village outside Malamulele. After a thorough check with the contractors, the water supply were restored to the people on Friday,21 August 2026.

The Executive Mayor has indicated that,when he arrive at the office three months ago, after being appointed as the new incumbent,he found a very serious challenge at the plant after having visited the side a month ago in Gandlanani, in an attempt to resolve the water crisis that has troubled the majority villagers around Malamulele.",We heard the call amd the cry of our people, hence we arrived at Mphakati and try our best to resolve the matter by restoring back the water to our people." Said Chauke.

The people of Mphakati, Xigalo,Nyavani ,Roodhuis ,Phoenix and the surroundings breathed a sigh of relief after their long dry water taps starts to bring water.

The biggest challenge that the Executive Mayor has highlighted is the issue of the illegal connections by the residents. He has emphasized that the district has taken an initiative to embark on dealing with illegal connections. Our team shall be on the ground from Tuesday nextweek, going house to house around the suspected villages,disconnecting all illegal connections, police shall accompany my team at Mphakati on Tuesday "the mayor concluded.

GAGASH AND WIFE'S CASE DEEPENS AS NEW R2.7M CHARGE EMERGES

POLOKWANE: The legal storm surrounding Tshwane Metro Police officer Peter “Gagash” Nonyane and his wife, attorney Charlotte Tibane-Nonyane, has deepened dramatically.

The couple appeared before the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where the State revealed an additional fraud charge against Charlotte Tibane involving more than R2.7 million.

The new charge relates to the estate of the late Thompson Maswanganyi, who died in August 2023.

According to the State, Tibane was appointed executor of the estate in November 2023 and was entrusted with administering the deceased's assets and distributing funds to his heirs and beneficiaries.

The estate allegedly had R4.24 million in cash.

The State alleges that approximately R1.47 million was paid to the 10 heirs, but that the remaining R2.77 million was allegedly used or appropriated for purposes other than paying legitimate creditors and beneficiaries.

Prosecutors say this allegedly caused financial prejudice of about R2.7 million to the beneficiaries.

The new allegation comes on top of the original case involving approximately R1.75 million allegedly taken from deceased estates.

The State alleges that R1.65 million from the late Mr Masha's estate and R100,000 from the late Ms Mathabatha's estate were transferred and ultimately linked to the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz AMG G63.

Nonyane and Tibane face fraud and money-laundering allegations in that matter.

CHARLOTTE FACES THE NEW CHARGE ALONE

The newly revealed R2.7 million charge applies to Tibane alone, according to the State's case.

Nonyane, meanwhile, remains the subject of the original allegations alongside his wife.

The case continues to unfold in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court, with the couple's bail proceedings forming a key part of Friday's court drama.

BAIL PROCEEDINGS POSTPONED FOR 'GREATER GAGASH' AND WIFE CHARLOTTE

POLOKWANE: The formal bail application for Tshwane Metro Police officer Peter " Greater Gagash" Nonyane (36) and his lawyer wife, Charlotte Tibane (33), has been postponed to Monday, 24 August 2026, by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

The court could not finalize the bail hearing on Friday afternoon, meaning the couple will spend another weekend in police custody as proceedings continue next week.

State prosecutors and defense council concluded part of their submissions on Friday, but arguments surrounding the fresh charges introduced earlier in the day forced the matter to be rolled over to the following week.

The couple was remanded to local correctional facilities, where they will remain until court resumes on Monday morning for judgment or continuation of the formal bail application.
