23 September 2025
NKOWANKOWA : A 33-year-old taxi driver is expected to appear in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, on a charge of murder after allegedly strangling his girlfriend to death.
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Theo Ngobeni from Rwanda village in N'wamitwa, was found dead at Section C in Nkowankowa Location. Police reports indicate that the incident followed a heated argument between the couple on Friday, 19 September 2025.
Investigations suggest that the suspect allegedly strangled the victim, whose body was later discovered in a decomposed state, tied up on the bed, two days after the attack. According to information, the suspect attempted to take his own life before being urged by his mother to hand himself over to police, after she found the young woman’s lifeless body in their bedroom.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a senseless act of gender-based violence.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are ongoing, with domestic violence suspected as a key factor.
The accused remains in custody and will face a formal murder charge when he appears in court.
