TRAFFIC ALERT: HEAVY MULTI VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON N1

Both lanes of the N1 near Ysterberg Mountain in Limpopo have been closed following a horrific accident involving three vehicles.

Emergency services and traffic officials are currently on the scene. Initial reports indicate that the crash has resulted in serious fatalities.

Motorists travelling between Polokwane and Johannesburg are urged to use alternative routes.

Vehicles travelling from Gauteng are advised to take the Nyl Plaza off-ramp and proceed via the R101, while those heading towards Gauteng should use the R101 from Polokwane.

Preliminary information suggests that four people killed on the accident.

UNPLEASANT SMELL FROM THE RIVER LEADS TO THE DISCOVERY OF THE BODY OF A YOUNG MAN WHO WAS MISSING IN MOKOPANE

MOKOPANE: A terrible smell emanating from the Mmetlane River in Mokopane has led to the discovery of the body of a 22 - year old missing young man. Malose Kgafela from Skilpad village in Mokamole under Mogalakwena Municipality was last seen at around 2pm on New Year’s Day... and was never seen alive again.

On Monday, January 5, family members and community volunteers began searching nearby villages, bushes and open areas.

After days of searching, a community member brought devastating news on Wednesday.

His body was discovered on Wednesday, January 7, at the Mmetlane River.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says the discovery was made after a local resident noticed a foul smell coming from the river, decided to investigate, and then found the body in the water.

The family has been further informed that the burial of Malose may be delayed by DNA tests.

BODY OF DROWNED BOY RECOVERED AT LETABA RIVER, SELWANE VILLAGE, LIMPOPO

SELWANE:The boy who was reported to have drowned at the Letaba River in Selwane Village on Friday, 09 January 2026 has been found. The body was recovered today,Saturday following an extensive search by police divers.

It is alleged that three boys were swimming while attempting to cross the river when one of them struggled and failed to make it across and subsequently drowned.Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were alerted and responded to the scene yesterday evening. A search operation was initiated but was suspended as police divers couldn't operate at night.

The search resumed on Saturday morning 10 January 2026, after divers were activated, leading to the recovery of the boy’s body. Police investigations into the incident are continuing.

NORTHWEST:The ANC leadership led by it's President Cyril Ramaphosa converged in Maruleng stadium, Northwest celebrating the existence of the party that was born on o8 January 1912.The party marks it's 114th year as a commemoration of the past leaders of the founding members.

President Cyril Ramaphosa on his address has assured supporters that the ANC is here to stay, declaring that the party will be around for another 114 years. The party has once again committed itself to renewal and rebuilding.

Unlike other same events every January, the today's event saw the tiny Maruleng stadium not in full capacity, which has sparked the heavy noise through the media and public platforms suggesting that people might be tired and not happy about service delivery from the Government of the ANC.

POLICE ARREST ONE SUSPECT FOR CAR HIJACKING IN MALAMULELE ,Limpopo

MALAMULELE:Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has praised a multi-disciplinary team comprising Malamulele Detectives, Thohoyandou Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) and Giyani LCRC for their sterling work that led to the recovery of three hijacked vehicles and the arrest of one suspect.

On 07 January 2026, a white Toyota Hilux double cab was hijacked at Mavambe Village outside Malamulele . Two unknown suspects, one armed with a firearm, allegedly accosted the victims and abandoned them in nearby bushes.

Following intelligence, police traced the vehicle to Mbhalati Village. The suspect fired shots at police during a chase but lost control of the vehicle, abandoned it and fled into nearby bushes. The vehicle was recovered.

Police later received information about two other hijacked vehicles reported at Hlanganani SAPS. A silver-grey VW Polo Vivo was found abandoned at Malamulele Section B, while a Kia Rio was spotted in the same area. A chase ensued, and the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Both vehicles were recovered and processed by Giyani LCRC.

In a follow-up operation on 08 January 2026 at about 06h20, police arrested a 43-year-old suspect admitted to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He was identified as the suspect involved in the earlier shoot-out and was found using false identification. A firearm holster was found in his possession.

A manhunt for the remaining suspects continues. Anyone with information should contact the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police station or use MySAPS App.

IDENTITY OF A 43 - YEAR OLD MAN STABBED TO DEATH BY HIS FATHER DURING A SCUFFLE IN SENWABARWANA REVEALED

LIMPOPO: The identity of a 43 year old man stabbed to death by his 60-year-old father at Tervission Section in Senwabarwana,Limpopo has been identified. Andries Thupana was stabbed to death on Thursday, 01 January 2026 following a heated argument between him and his mother and it escalated to a scuffle with his alleged killer, his father.

It is alleged that the Thupana had an argument with his mother and the process allegedly threatened to kill his father. His mother apparently contacted her husband who was not around to inform him that his son was coming to kill him.

Reports indicate that indeed a 43 year-old went to his father's place, and a fight erupted between the two on his arrival.

The 43 year old allegedly took out a sharp object, and his father apparently managed to overpower him, grabbed it and stabbed him on the upper body.The son died on the scene.

Police registered a case of murder against the suspect (father) and he was arrested.

The motive behind the incident is unknown at this stage. however, domestic violence can not be ruled out.

The Chavani village outside Elim was painted with the red colours of the most famous Xitsonga Musician and comedian G-one Solly Makamu, as one of the team members known as
Ntwanano Valencia Baloyi was laid to rest today,10 January 2026.

Solly Makamu together with his close compatriot Simphiwe Shirinda known as "Xilonda Mali" and the whole G-one team graced the most emotional occasion of sending off one of their own.In his emotional speech, Makamu described the late Ntwanano as one of the members who supported him since the early days of the most famous Mafenya brothers ."There was no Solly Makamu event here at home where Ntwanano would miss, she loved my Xitsonga music and supported me through out,we have lost a most dedicated supporter, may her soul rest in peace".Solly Makamu said.

Solly Makamu music sounds also concluded the day after the funeral service and burial at Ntwanano's home,where team G-one members danced and bid a good farewell to the young Ntwanano. Makamu's love for his fans is visible and is indisputable.

May Ntwanano's soul rest in peace..

SHEBESHXT URGENT BAIL APPLICATION DISMISSED

POLOKWANE: Lekompo artist Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, has had his urgent bail application dismissed.

The ruling was handed down on Friday, 09 January 2026, by Acting Judge Natalie Burnet in the High Court.

Shebeshxt’s legal team had approached the High Court on an urgent basis on 31 December 2025, seeking to overturn an earlier decision that denied him bail.

Judgment in the matter had been reserved before being delivered today.He will remain in custody and is expected back in court on 19 January 2026.
