DENNILTON WOMAN FACES PENSION DISPUTE AFTER HUSBAND’S PASSING
A woman from Dennilton is calling for accountability after experiencing difficulties in accessing her late husband’s pension benefits.
The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says her husband was employed at a company in Johannesburg and was a registered member of a pension or provident fund through his workplace. She explained that lobola was paid during their marriage process, and she holds a valid marriage certificate confirming their union.
Following her husband’s passing, she submitted all the required documents, including her marriage certificate and claim forms, to the pension fund.
However, the process was allegedly delayed after the fund contacted her in-laws, who reportedly claimed they did not know her. This has resulted in the pension payout being withheld.
She further stated that she was advised to verify her marriage with the Department of Home Affairs, where it was officially confirmed as valid and recognised.
Despite this confirmation, her claim has still not been finalised.
The woman is now calling for fairness and accountability, urging all parties involved to follow proper legal procedures.
She has been advised to seek assistance from the Pension Funds Adjudicator, which handles disputes related to pension funds, including delays, beneficiary disagreements, and unfair refusal of benefits.
She is also considering approaching Legal Aid South Africa should the matter remain unresolved.
The case highlights ongoing concerns around delays and disputes in pension benefit claims following the death of a spouse.
