Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Tanzanian singer and songwriter Zuchu, born Uhura Othman Soud on November 22, 1993, in Zanzibar, has emerged as a powerful force in the African music industry.

Currently signed to the prestigious WCB Wasafi record label, Zuchu’s career has been marked by impressive achievements, but recent controversies and personal challenges have also made headlines.

Zuchu’s ascent in the music world has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her breakthrough came in 2020 when she became the first East African female artist to receive YouTube’s Silver Plaque Button for reaching 100,000 subscribers within a week.

This milestone was followed by an even more impressive feat, as she hit 1 million subscribers just 11 months later.

In 2023, Zuchu’s star continued to rise as she won five awards at the Tanzania Music Awards in April. Later that year, she surpassed 500 million views on YouTube, making her the first female artist in East Africa and the fifth in Africa to achieve such a remarkable milestone. Her 2022 hit single “Sukari” also gained recognition, being listed among the top Tanzanian songs of the decade by Notjustok.

Despite her professional successes, Zuchu’s personal life has recently become a focal point of public interest. The singer, who hails from a musical family with her mother being renowned Zanzibari Taarab musician Khadija Kopa, has been in the spotlight for her relationship with WCB Wasafi’s Diamond Platnumz.

Their relationship, publicly confirmed by Zuchu, has been both celebrated and scrutinized. Recent reports revealed that Zuchu requested financial support from Diamond for breast surgery, stirring discussions and controversies among fans and the media.

Adding to the complexity of her situation, Zuchu recently faced a ban from performing in Zanzibar. The reasons for this ban have not been fully disclosed, but it has sparked considerable debate within the music community and highlighted the ongoing challenges in her career.

Despite these obstacles, Zuchu remains a significant figure in the music industry. Her latest collaboration, “Nani,” has been well-received and demonstrates her evolving artistry.

Zuchu’s discography includes her debut EP “I Am Zuchu” (2020), which features popular tracks like “Cheche” and “Sukari.” Her recent singles and collaborations continue to resonate with audiences across the region, reinforcing her status as a leading artist.

As Zuchu navigates both the highs and lows of her career, she remains a powerful presence in Tanzanian music. Her journey reflects the dynamic and sometimes turbulent nature of fame in today’s entertainment industry.

Stay tuned with The Southern Live for the latest updates on Zuchu and other regional superstars shaping the African music scene.

The Southernlive had the opportunity to catch up with him in an exclusive interview, exploring the secrets of his rise to fame, his love life and more.

TSL: With so many admirers sliding into your DMs, do you have any hilarious or memorable pickup lines that have caught your attention?

Victor: I hardly look into my DMs, but sometimes I take a look to see what is going on. Yes, I do encounter memorable pickup lines like:

“Your eyes are small, are you seeing someone?”

“Make me pregnant, I won’t tell anyone.”

“I can get a divorce for you.”

That’s -1% of it, but it is indeed a beautiful world out there in the streets of DMs Hahaha.

TSL: What is the wackiest and most amusing rumour or misconception about you that you’ve come across on social media, and how do you react to it?

Victor: Well, there is a lot of hate and bullying that comes, especially attacking my personal life. Things like people saying my girlfriend is not good enough for me. Things like I am gay but I use my female to hide it. It’s a lot, but I am spiritually wise to deal with all this, so nothing affects me.

VISA WOES: ZIMBABWE DELEGATION ABSENT FROM KEY WOMEN'S RIGHTS CONFERENCE

A source, who agreed to speak anonymously, stated that the United States’ denial of visas to Zimbabweans can be seen as a form of retaliation for the unjustified detention and deportations of its citizens.

“I think what happened is a diplomatic way for the United States to fight back and frustrate the Zimbabwean government. Being removed from the website is a clear statement that their participation is officially canceled,” explained the source.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit, which took place in Luanda yesterday, convened by His Excellency Mr. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, the President of the Republic of Angola and the Chairperson of SADC, has stirred widespread outrage due to the notable absence of discussions on critical matters pertaining to Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

SADC confirmed in a statement that they received an update on elections in member states and noted the report of the SADC Election Observation Mission in Zimbabwe and Eswatini. However, there was no mention of Mozambique, despite the troubling reports of over 111 people detained and held in custody without trial in Nampula.

One particular track from the album, “Indawo Yakho,” stands out as a poignant narrative, telling the heartbreaking story of a young girl confessing to her mother about the ongoing sexual abuse by her father.

This emotional composition sheds light on the prevalent issue of sexual assault, bringing attention to South Africa’s alarming status as the r**e capital of the world.

The decision by Lwah Ndlunkulu to tackle such a sensitive and urgent topic is significant, especially in light of the staggering 10,500 reported r**e cases in the country in 2022.
